NSIC Duals Open Tomorrow for No. 17 Wolves out East

Aberdeen, S.D. – The No. 17 Northern State University wrestling team heads to Kenosha, Wisconsin this weekend for a pair of competitions. The Wolves will face the Wisconsin Parkside Rangers at 7 p.m. in NSIC action on Friday evening and compete at the Jim Koch Open beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

#17 NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES
  • The Wolves open NSIC competition with a 1-1 record on the year, defeating Carl Albert State (47-3) and falling to No. 4 Central Oklahoma (30-3)
  • Of the Wolves slated for action in the dual, Marshall VanTassel and Tyson Lien lead the team with five and four wins respectively
  • VanTassel notched a upset victory over No. 3 Brik Filippo of Central Oklahoma and Lien tallied a runner-up finish at the DWU Open; the Wolves highest open finish of the season thus far
  • Wyatt Turnquist is the lone Wolf not to suffer a loss, holding a 2-0 record in 2022-23
  • The Wolves are currently ranked No. 17 in the NWCA Poll with three individually ranked student-athletes in No. 3 Cole Huss (197), No. 6 Treyton Cacek (184), and No. 11 Turnquist (149)

  • The Rangers are 1-0 this season with an early year victory over Wisconsin Whitewater (24-9)
  • Parkside was picked fifth in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll after going 5-3 in the league last season
  • UWP holds a national team ranking of No. 13 with two individuals ranked in No. 1 Shane Gantz at 165 pounds and No. 3 Reece Worachek at 184 pounds
  • Parkside is led by head coach Nick Becker in his second season at the helm
