Wolves Fall to Beavers in NSIC Quarterfinals

Minot, N.D. – The Northern State women's soccer team fell in the quarterfinal round of the NSIC Tournament to Minot State 2-0 on Monday afternoon. The teams entered the halftime break with a scoreless tie before the Beavers scored three unanswered goals in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Northern State had a scoring look off their first corner kick attempt of the game in the 28th minute as Paige Hutton's header went just high over the crossbar
  • Lilja Davidsdottir made a key defensive play in the 34th minute when she deflected a breakaway shot attempt by Hadlee Paxman, keeping the game scoreless in the closing minutes of the first half
  • Northern's first shot-on-goal of the game came in the 53rd minute when Megan Fastenau fired a shot towards the bottom right corner of the net; DeAnna Lemire recorded a shot-on-goal in the 61st minute that was corralled by Maddie Kindred off a free kick
  • Brooklyn Casey broke the scoreless tie for Minot State in the 65th minute, she was able to catch up to the long pass from Maddy St. Yves and sneak the ball past Alexus Townsend who was attempting to fall on the loose ball
  • One of NSU's best scoring opportunities in the second half came from Calista Kocmick in the 71st minute as she fired a contested shot from ten yards in front of the goal that went just wide left of the net
  • The Beavers extended the lead to 2-0 in the 74th minute as Paxman was able to cut through the NSU defense and net a goal from ten yards out
  • Paxman collected her second goal of the game for the Beavers in the 88th minute when she headed in a cross pass from Emma Monsen
  • Minot State held the advantage in shots (21-11), shots-on-goal (7-6), and corner kicks (9-2)
