Fan Primer: Wolves Set for Regular Season Finale with MSU Moorhead

Aberdeen, S.D. â€“ The Northern State women’s soccer team looks to secure their spot in the top-8 of the NSIC standings and clinch a bid to the conference tournament in Thursday night’s regular season finale. The Wolves play host to their travel partner MSU Moorhead with a 5:30 p.m. kick-off at the Athletic & Recreation Fields in Aberdeen. Thursday also marks Senior Day for Northern as the Wolves will honor Paige Hutton, DeAnna LeMire, Isabela Polanco Garcia, Lilja Davidsdottir, and Alexa Sutherland.

Online Ticketing

Wolves Club season tickets and general admission passes can be purchased online at nsuwolves.universitytickets.com or at the gate on game day. The fully automated system allows fans to select their seat for game day with tickets sent directly to your email or mobile device. Pricing for season and single game tickets is available at nsuwolves.com/tickets. Senior and youth tickets are only available for purchase at the gate on game days. All game day ticket sales will be available at the main entrance to the Athletic & Recreation Fields for soccer.

Current Northern State University students will receive one free ticket to all home sporting events throughout the 2022-23 academic. Information on how to claim student tickets will be distributed via email. 

 

Entrances to the Facility & Gate Opening Times

Fans should enter through the main gates of 14th Ave SW on game day. The ticket tent, located just inside the fence, will open one hour prior to kick-off for all general admission and same day ticket sales. Individuals included in the Northern State passbook must sign in with the ticket personnel.  There is no re-entry into the facility.

 

Parking

Parking for all home Northern State soccer contests is free for all fans. Fans are encouraged to park on the North end of the Barnett Center lot and walk to the main gate of the Athletics & Recreation Fields. Limited parking is available outside of the facility on 14th Ave SW. 

 

Concessions

The Northern State concession stands are operated by Sodexo and offer a wide range of options for fans of all ages. Enjoy an ice-cold Coca-Cola product, bite into a soft pretzel with cheese, a world famous Wolf dog, or walking taco. Don’t forget to grab a freshly made popcorn or batch of Wisconsin cheese curds from one of the concession stands near you at all home Wolves athletic events. NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES

  • Northern State enters Thursday’s match with a record of 8-4-5 (6-3-5 NSIC) on the season, the Wolves have gone 4-1-2 since the start of October
  • The Wolves split a pair of games last weekend, defeating St. Cloud State at home (1-0) prior to falling on the road at Minnesota Duluth (1-0)
  • With one game remaining in the regular season, Northern currently sits in eighth place in the conference standings with 23 points in league play
  • A Northern State win against MSU Moorhead or a Winona State loss to Upper Iowa clinches a postseason bid for the Wolves, NSU could move up as far as fifth in the conference standings with a win over MSUM and losses by Concordia-St. Paul (at Minnesota State), UMary (vs. Minot State), and Minnesota Duluth (vs. St. Cloud State)
  • Hannah Smith leads the team with 15 points this season from a team-high seven goals and one assist, while Mia Zagorski and Megan Fastenau are close behind with 11 and ten points respectively
  • With all 15 points and seven goals occurring in NSIC action, Smith is tied for sixth and fourth respectively among league leaders in conference play
  • In the 1-0 win over St. Cloud State last week, Zagorski netted her fourth game-winning goal of the season which is tied for 23rd most nationally; she is tied for second in the league with three in conference play
  • Fastenau assisted on Zagorski’s goal against the Huskies and moved herself into the team lead with four assists this season, she is tied for fourth in the NISC with all four assists occurring in conference matches
  • Alexus Townsend made a career high 13 saves against SCSU, which was tied for the fourth most in Northern single game history; Townsend has recorded double-digit saves three times in her career, with both previous occurrences happening last season
  • Townsend has recorded a total of 74 saves this season for a 0.892 save percentage, 0.58 goals-against average, and seven shutouts
  • Townsend ranks tenth nationally in save percentage (0.892), 26th in goals-against average (0.582), and is tied for 27th in shutouts (7)
  • As a team Northern State ranks fifth nationally in save percentage (0.898), seventh in fewest fouls per game (5.65), tied for 15th in total shutouts (10), tied for 20th in goals-against average (0.529), and is tied for 23rd in shutout percentage (0.588)

 

MSU MOORHEAD STORYLINES

  • MSU Moorhead enters Thursday’s season finale with a record of 2-10-3 (2-9-3) on the season, looking for their first win since October 7 against Southwest Minnesota State
  • The Dragons dropped a pair of games last weekend at home against Minnesota Duluth (2-1) and at St. Cloud State (3-0)
  • MSUM currently sits in 13th place in the conference standings with nine points in league play
  • Jensen Seidel leads the team with eight points this season from a team-high four goals, the only other player with multiple goals for the Dragons is Callyn Johnson with two
  • Lilly Johnson has recorded a team-high three assists for MSU Moorhead
  • Quinn Carter and Simone Lewald have split time in goal for MSUM this season, Carter has played in eight games and made seven starts this season while Lewald has played and started in eight games
  • Carter has grabbed 59 saves for a 0.747 save percentage and has recorded a 2.67 goals-against average; Lewald has grabbed 53 saves for a 0.791 save percentage and has recorded a 1.87 goals-against average
  • Christie Kopietz is in her seventh season as the head women’s soccer coach at MSU Moorhead, she holds a career record of 17-78-12 during her time with the Dragons

 

LAST MATCH-UP

  • Northern State and MSU Moorhead battled to a scoreless draw in Moorhead on November 5, 2021, in the regular season finale
  • Northern leads the all-time series 17-4-4, and is unbeaten in the previous five meetings with four wins and a draw
