Fan Primer: Wolves Battle Huskies and Bulldogs with Postseason Play on the Line

Aberdeen, S.D. â€“ With a handful of teams still looking to secure their spot in the NSIC Tournament, the Northern State women’s soccer team will face a pair of teams on the outside looking in for the final doubleheader weekend of the regular season. With a split weekend, Northern will host St. Cloud State at the Athletic & Recreation Fields on Friday night with a 5:30 p.m. kick-off, before having to travel to Minnesota Duluth on Sunday afternoon with a 1 p.m. start time at James S. Malosky Stadium.

Game Specific Promotions

  • Friday's contest is Dad's and Daughter's Day
    • Any dads who bring their daughter to Friday night's match will receive discounted admission and their daughter can attend the game for free

 

Online Ticketing

Wolves Club season tickets and general admission passes can be purchased online at nsuwolves.universitytickets.com or at the gate on game day. The fully automated system allows fans to select their seat for game day with tickets sent directly to your email or mobile device. Pricing for season and single game tickets is available at nsuwolves.com/tickets. Senior and youth tickets are only available for purchase at the gate on game days. All game day ticket sales will be available at the main entrance to the Athletic & Recreation Fields for soccer.

Current Northern State University students will receive one free ticket to all home sporting events throughout the 2022-23 academic. Information on how to claim student tickets will be distributed via email. 

 

Entrances to the Facility & Gate Opening Times

Fans should enter through the main gates of 14th Ave SW on game day. The ticket tent, located just inside the fence, will open one hour prior to kick-off for all general admission and same day ticket sales. Individuals included in the Northern State passbook must sign in with the ticket personnel.  There is no re-entry into the facility.

 

Parking

Parking for all home Northern State soccer contests is free for all fans. Fans are encouraged to park on the North end of the Barnett Center lot and walk to the main gate of the Athletics & Recreation Fields. Limited parking is available outside of the facility on 14th Ave SW. 

 

Concessions

The Northern State concession stands are operated by Sodexo and offer a wide range of options for fans of all ages. Enjoy an ice-cold Coca-Cola product, bite into a soft pretzel with cheese, a world famous Wolf dog, or walking taco. Don’t forget to grab a freshly made popcorn or batch of Wisconsin cheese curds from one of the concession stands near you at all home Wolves athletic events. NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES

  • Northern State enters this weekend’s matches with a record of 7-3-5 (5-2-5 NSIC)
  • The Wolves are currently seventh place in the league standings with 20 points, only two points behind Augustana in fourth place for the chance to host a first round match-up in the NSIC Tournament
  • NSU went 1-0-1 on the road last weekend, defeating Upper Iowa (1-0) and earning a draw with Winona State (1-1)
  • For the fourth consecutive week Northern State is ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Central Region Top-10 Poll and remains steady at No. 9 for the third straight week
  • Northern is led by Hannah Smith with a team-high 15 points from seven goals and one assist, while Megan Fastenau and Mia Zagorski lead the team with three assists each
  • Alexus Townsend remains Northern State’s top goalkeeper having grabbed 59 saves for a 0.881 save percentage and 0.59 goals-allowed average; Townsend has notched six shutouts this season
  • Townsend ranks in the top-40 nationally three statistical categories, ranking 13th in save percentage (0.881), 31st in goals-against average (0.594), and tied for 31st in shutouts (6); Zagorski is tied for 38th nationally with three game-winning goals this season
  • As a team the Wolves rank in the top-25 nationally in five statistical categories, ranking in a tie for fifth in save percentage (0.889), tied for 11th in total shutouts (9), tied for 14th in fewest fouls per game (6.00), tied for 17th in goals-against average (0.533), and tied for 22nd in shutout percentage (0.600)

 

ST. CLOUD STATE STORYLINES

  • St. Cloud State enters this weekend’s matches with a record of 5-6-4 (4-4-4 NSIC)
  • The Huskies are currently tenth place in the league standings with 16 points, only three points behind Winona State in eighth place for the final spot in the NSIC Tournament
  • SCSU split a pair of games on the road last weekend, falling to Augustana (2-0) before bouncing back to defeat Wayne State (1-0)
  • St. Cloud State is led by Megan Kirby and Jenna Dominguez with four goals apiece; Kirby leads the team with 11 points from four goals and three assists, while Dominguez is second with ten points from four goals and two assists
  • The Huskies top goalkeeper is Evie Kohn who has grabbed 44 saves for a 0.772 save percentage and 0.90 goals-allowed average; Kohn has notched six shutouts this season
  • Kohn is tied for 31st nationally in shutouts (6) and is 37th in goalie minutes played (1296:03)
  • Gretta Arvesen is in her ninth season as the head women’s soccer coach at St. Cloud State, she holds a career record of 62-59-24 during her time with the Huskies

  • St. Cloud State defeated Northern State at home on October 29, 2021, behind a pair of first half goals for a 2-0 victory
  • SCSU leads the all-time series 11-3-3, and have won the last five games in the series

  • Duluth went 2-0 last weekend, winning at Wayne State (1-0) and Augustana (1-0)
  • UMD is led by Jackie Jares with a team-high four goals and five assists for 13 points
  • The Bulldogs top goalkeeper is Jennifer Norris who has grabbed 56 saves for a 0.848 save percentage and 1.08 goals-allowed average; Norris has notched three shutouts this season
  • Norris is tied for 38th nationally in save percentage (0.848) and is 43rd in saves per game (5.60)
  • Norris was named the NSIC Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday following a pair of shutouts over Wayne State and Augustana
  • Greg Cane is in his 33rd season as a head coach in women’s collegiate soccer and his 29th at Minnesota Duluth, Cane holds a career record of 294-223-56 during his time with Duluth and St. Scholastica
