Wolves Open Season with Homecoming Tri

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University women's swimming program will open their season by hosting Concordia-St. Paul and UMary on Friday, October 1, at the Aberdeen YMCA.

NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES
  • Northern State finished the 2021 season with a record of 1-8 overall, and closed the season with a sixth place finish at the NSIC Championships totaling 209 points
  • Northern returns two swimmers with multiple top-10 finishes in last year's conference meet, Lauren Forsyth and Maddie Gonzales
    • Forsyth was fifth place in the 200 fly and seventh place in the 100 fly
    • Gonzales was seventh place in the 200 back and tenth place in the 100 back
    • Both Forsyth and Gonzales were members of the 200 and 400 medley relays that placed eighth and seventh respectively
  • The NSIC Swimmer to Watch for NSU is Haley Osborn, who was a 4-time state medalist and 2020 Idaho State Champion in the 100 free for Mountain View High School
  • The Wolves were picked seventh in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll, with a total of 22 points
  • Kaden Huntrods enters his first season as the head coach for Northern State
CONCORDIA-ST. PAUL STORYLINES
  • The 2021-22 season will be the second season of competition for Concordia-St. Paul
  • The Golden Bears return two swimmers from last years inaugural season, Sydney Fleming and Laura Vicon
    • Flemming became the first in program history to qualify for an event final at the NSIC Championships, finishing 22nd in the 400 medley
    • Vicon became the first swimmer in program history to earn points in the NSIC Championships, finishing 13th in the 200 fly
  • The NSIC Swimmer to Watch for CSP is Farida Maher, a freshman from Cairo, Egypt
    • Maher was first place in the 18 year old age group in the 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1500m freestyle; she also finished first overall in the 200m freestyle
  • Concordia-St. Paul was picked ninth in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll, with a total of eight points
  • Former Minnesota State swimmer Rachel Busch will enter her first season as the head coach at Concordia-St. Paul
  • This will be the first ever dual meet between the Wolves and Golden Bears
UMARY STORYLINES
  • UMary finished the 2021 season with a dual meet record of 3-1, and placed fourth at the NSIC Championships with a total of 514.5 points
  • The Marauders return four swimmers who were All-NSIC at the 2021 NSIC Championships, Andrea Lee, Victoria Murillo, Breena DeLegge, and Rylie Webb
    • Victoria Murillo won individual titles last year in the 200 and 500 free, while Breena DeLegge won the 100 free
    • In the 500 free, Victoria Murillo broke the NSIC record with a time of 4:56.55
  • UMary was picked fifth in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll, with a total of 37 points
  • Leah Neiheisel enters her third season as the head coach for the Marauders
LOOKING BACK TO 2021
  • Northern State and UMary faced off in three dual meets last season, with UMary winning the last one on January 16 by a score of 98-50
  • UMary leads the all-time dual series 9-4, and have won the last seven straight
