Burnsville, Minn. - The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference released the 2021-22 Preseason Swimming Coaches' Poll, with the Northern State Wolves picked seventh totaling 22 points in the poll.

The 2020-21 Northern State swim team finished the season with a record of 1-8 overall. Northern went on to close the season with a sixth place finish in the NSIC Championships totaling 209 points; the program's highest finish since the move to nine competing teams. The Wolves return two swimmers with multiple top-10 finishes in last year's conference meet in Lauren Forsyth and Maddie Gonzales. Forsyth recorded a fifth place finish in the 200 fly and seventh place finish in the 100 fly, while Gonzales recorded a seventh place finish in the 200 back and tenth place finish in the 100 back. Both Forsyth and Gonzales were also on the 200 and 400 medley relays that placed eighth and seventh respectively. The program enters their first season under the direction of Kaden Huntrods, following a two-year stint as the men's and women's head coach at Iowa Lakes Community College. The Wolves return 16 swimmers from last year's roster and add six incoming freshmen to the team. They open the 2021-22 season at home versus UMary and Concordia-St. Paul on Friday, October 1.

The Northern State swimmer to watch this upcoming season is Haley Osborne, an incoming freshman from Boise, Idaho. While at Mountain View High School she was a 4-time state medalist and 2020 Idaho State Champion in the 100 free. To go along with her achievements at the state level, she was a 3-time all-conference selection. In 2020-21 she was a national qualifier as a member of the Boise Y swim team and placed second in the 2018 YMCA Nationals.
