Track and Field Adds Speed, Endurance, and Strength to 2021 Roster

Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State University head track and field coach, Lynne Dingman announced the addition of 18 student-athletes to the men's and women's track and field and cross country rosters for the 2021-22 season. Nathan Alto (Bemidji, Minn.), Kamdyn Barrientos (Grand Island, Neb.), Brady Bauman (Bismarck, N.D.), Wyatt Block (Mankato, Minn.), Jaden Bohms-Buechler (Aberdeen, S.D.), Jonathan Burkhalter (Prairie City, S.D.), Summer Carlson (Moorhead, Minn.),  Kaylee Clement (Cambridge, Minn.), Perry Harrold II (Memphis, Tenn.), Kira Goldade (Aberdeen, S.D.), Rico Imus (Gillette, Wyo.), Joel Matehs (Rugby, N.D.), Austin Moen (Roslyn, S.D.), Glen Quayle (Isle of Man), Sam Sather (Grand Forks, N.D.), Dylan Schimke (Wessington Springs, S.D.), Luke Schroeder (Green Bay, Wis.), and Chase Smith (Mount Ayr, Iowa) will join the current class of 14 new additions.
 
Nathan AltoNathan Alto | Bemidji, Minn. | Bemidji HS | Distance
Nathan Alto is a distance runner out of Bemidji High School. He is an 11-time letter winner in track and field and cross country for the Lumberjacks, under the direction of head coach Ryan Aylesworth. Alto won the 2020 Section 8AA Cross Country Championship and his team finished as the MSHSL State Champions. He holds personal bests of 16:21.00 (XC – 5k), 10:01.00 (3200m), 4:36.00 (1600m), and 2:10.00 (800m). He is the son of Shannon and Dan Alto.
 
 
Kamdyn BarrientosKamdyn Barrientos | Grand Island, Neb. | Grand Island Senior High | Throws
Kamdyn Barrientos is a thrower out of Grand Island Senior High. She was a 4-year letter winner for the Islanders under the direction of head coach Jeff Tomlin. Barrientos holds personal records of 40-00 in the shot put, and 133-06 in the discus. She placed at the NE State Meet in both the Discus (runner-up) and Shot Put (5th Place). She was named the 2021 Athlete of the Year and is a 2-time Nebraska State qualifier. She is the daughter of Jami and Jamie Barrientos and will also be a member of the Northern State softball team.
 

 
Brady BaumanBrady Bauman | Bismarck, N.D. | Bismarck HS | Throws
Brady Bauman is a thrower out of Bismarck High School. He is a 4-year letter winner and senior team captain for the Demons under the direction of head coach Brad Leingang. From his sophomore year, holds personal bests of 53'9" in shot put and 156'3" in the discus. He is the son of Clare Jochim and Pete Bauman.
 

Wyatt BlockWyatt Block | Mankato, Minn. | Mankato West | Sprints/Jumps
Wyatt Block is a sprinter/jumper out of Mankato West High School. He was a 4-year letter winner for the Scarlet. Block qualified for the Minnesota State Meet in the 4x100 in 2018. In addition, he holds personal bests of 11.55 in the 100m and 19-6.5 in the long jump. He is the son of Kris and Bill Block and will also be a member of the Northern State football program.
 

 
Jaden Bohms-BuechlerJaden Bohms-Buechler | Aberdeen, S.D. | Central HS | Hurdles
Jaden Bohns-Buechler is a hurdler out of Central High School. He is a letter winner for the Golden Eagles, under the direction of head coach Greg Murley. Bohms-Buechler is a state qualifier in both the 110m (15.64) and 300m (43.08) hurdle events.  He is the son of Jessica and Brian Bohms-Buechler.
 

 
BurkhalterJonathan Burkhalter | Prairie City, S.D. | Distance
Jonathan Burkhalter is a distance runner from Prairie City, South Dakota. He is homeschooled, competing at Bison High School. He is a 6-year letter winner for the Cardinals. Burkhalter holds personal bests 2:01 (800m), 4:26 (1600m), 9:57 (3200m), and 16:20.00 (XC 5k). He won state titles this past season 1600m and 3200m and placed third in the 800m. His team's won the track and field state title (2016) and cross country state championships (2020).  He is the son of Brad and Jennifer Burkhalter.
 

 
Summer CarlsonSummer Carlson | Moorhead, Minn. | Moorhead HS | Mid-Distance
Summer Carlson is a middle distance runner out of Moorhead High School. She was a 3-year letter winner for the Spuds under the direction of head coach Ron Davies. Carlson holds personal bests of 60.58 in the 400m and 2:20.00 in the 800m. In 2019, she was a member of the seventh place 4x400m relay team at the Minnesota State meet. She is the daughter of Jill and Joel Carlson and will also be a member of the Northern State soccer team.
 

 
Kaylee ClementKaylee Clement | Cambridge, Minn. | Cambridge-Isanti HS | Sprints/Jumps
Kaylee Clement is a sprinter/jumper out of Cambridge-Isanti High School. She is a 2-year letter winner for CIHS, under the direction of head coach Michael Galligan. Clement holds personal bests of 12.59 in the 100m, 26.78 in the 200m, and 16'11" in the long jump. She placed third at the MN State Championships in the 4X200 (1:43.98). In 2019 she was Section 7AA Champion in the 100m. She is the daughter of Jessica Carter.
 


HarroldPerry Harrold II | Memphis, Tenn. | Millington Central HS | Mid-Distance
Perry Harrold II is a middle distance runner out of Millington Central High School. He was a 3-year letter winner and team captain for the Trojans under the direction of head coach James Edwards. Harrold holds personal bests of 2:04.00 in the 800m and 19-2.0 in the long jump. He is a 3-time recipient of the Academic Excellence Award. He is the son of James Harrold.
 

 
Kira GoldadeKira Goldade | Aberdeen, S.D. | Distance
Kira Goldade is a distance runner out of Aberdeen, competing for Aberdeen Christian as a prep. She was a 5-year letter winner and 2-year team captain for the Knights. In 2020, Goldade placed 15th at the South Dakota State Cross Country Meet. In addition, Aberdeen Christian was the 2020 SD State runner-up after winning the LRC and Regional Championships. Goldade will compete for both the track and field and cross country programs.
 

 
Rico ImusRico Imus | Gillette, Wyo. | Thunder Basin HS | Pole Vault
Rico Imus is a pole vaulter out of Thunder Basin High School. He was a 4-year letter winner for the Lightning Bolts. Imus was a 6-time state place winner in both indoor and outdoor track and field, finishing 3rd Indoors and 6th Outdoors 2021. He holds both the indoor and outdoor pole vault records at Thunder Basin. His personal best is 13'. He is the son of Cevin and Stacy Imus.
 

MatehsJoel Matehs | Rugby, N.D. | Rugby HS | Hurdles
Joel Matehs is a hurdler out of Rugby High School. He is a 3-year letter winner for the Panthers under the direction of head coach Scott Grochow. He holds personal bests of 14.89 110m hurdles, 40.41 in the 300m hurdles, 11.24 in the 100m dash, and 22.83 in the 200m dash.  He won the state title in 110m hurdles, 4X100 and placed second in the 300m hurdles and 4X200 at the state meet. He is the son of Amanda and Josh Matehs.
 

 
MoenAustin Moen | Roslyn, S.D. | Webster Area HS | Dakota Wesleyan | Sprints/Jumps
Austin Moen is a sprinter/jumper out of Webster Area High School. He was a 4-year letter winner for the Bearcats under the direction of head coach Brandi Gangle. Moen holds personal bests of 20-6.5 in the long jump, 42-3.75 in the triple jump, 6.82 in the 55m, 11.47 in the 100m, and 23.79 in the 200m. He was a 2-time NEC Champion in the triple jump and 2-time South Dakota State place winner. Moen competed one season at Dakota Wesleyan, notching bests of 44-7.0 in the triple jump and 21-00 in the long jump. He is the son of Andy and Meagan Moen.
 

Glen QuayleGlen Quayle | Isle of Man | Ramsey Grammar School | Pole Vault
Glen Quayle is a pole vaulter out of the Isle of Man and Ramsey Grammar School. Quayle holds personal bests of 4.82m (indoor) and 4.80m (outdoor). He is a member of the Isle of Man English Schools Team, Leicestershire English Schools Team, and a 2019 member of team England. He is the son of Mark and Janelle Quayle.
 

Sam SatherSam Sather | Grand Forks, N.D. | Red River HS | Throws
Sam Sather is a thrower out of Red River High School. A former Aberdeen native, Sather attended Roncalli High School through his junior year. He is a 4-year letter winner in track and field. Sather tallied a personal best of 49'6" in the shot put in 2019.  He is the son of Paul and Kelsie Sather. Sather also signed with the Northern State football program as an offensive lineman.
 

 
SchimkeDylan Schimke | Wessington Springs, S.D. | Wessington Springs HS | Sprints/Mid-Distance
Dylan Schimke is a sprinter/middle distance runner out of Wessington Springs High School. In his first season of high school track and field, Schimke qualified for the South Dakota State Meet in three events. He holds a personal best of 51.62 in the 400m, placing eighth in the event at the state meet. In addition, he was a member of the third place 4x800m relay. Schimke is a member of the South Dakota National Guard. He is the son of Chris Schimke and Michelle Tong.
 

 
SchroederLuke Schroeder | Green Bay, Wis. | Ashwaubenon HS | Hurdler
Luke Schroeder is a hurdler out of Ashwaubenon High School. He is a 3-year letter winner for the Jaguars. Schroeder holds a personal best of 38.05 in the 300m hurdles, 14.92 in the 110m hurdles.  This past season he won the state title in the 300 hurdles, was runner in the 110 hurdles and his 4X400 team placed 8th (season best time of 3:25.69).  He is the son of Bill and Shelly Schroeder. Schroeder also signed with the Northern State football program as a wide receiver.
 
 
Chase SmithChase Smith | Mount Ayr, Iowa | Mount Ayr Community HS | Iowa Central CC | Mid-Distance
Chase Smith is a middle distance and cross country runner out of Mount Ayr Community High School and Iowa Central Community College. As a prep, Smith with a 4-year letter winner, recording personal bests of 10:33.00 (3200m), 4:46.00 (1600m), 2:03.00 (800m), and 17:27.00 (5K). He was a 2018 cross country state qualifier and 2-time track and field state qualifier in the 4x800m relay. Running at Iowa Central, Smith tallied an 8K personal best of 27:13.00. The cross country team at ICCC placed third at the national meet in 2019 and followed that up with a NJCAA National Championship in 2020. In addition, the track and field squad won the indoor National Championship in 2020 and finished as the runner-up in 2021. He is the son of Chadd and April Smith.
