Softball Goes to Extras for Second Straight Day, Falls Twice to St. Cloud State

St. Cloud, Minn. – The Northern State University softball team closed out the regular season with two loss at St. Cloud State. The Wolves battled in game two, but ultimately fell in the bottom of the ninth. Despite the loss, Northern qualified for the NSIC Tournament kicking off on Thursday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Elyse Cuttic hit a single in the top of the third, scoring Ashley Fauske for the first run of the game
  • St. Cloud State answered back in the bottom of the frame, tying the game at one
  • The Huskies then took the lead in the fifth, with three runs and held the Wolves offensively to close out the contest
  • Northern scored their one run on four hits with one error defensively
  • Meghan Anderson suffered the loss, giving up three earned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • St. Cloud State took an early 3-0 lead through the first two frames, however the Wolves battled back
  • Shelby Novotny and Elyse Cuttic hit RBI singles in the top of the third, scoring Jessi Hernandez and Kennady Thompson
  • Cuttic then blasted a 3-run homerun in the fifth, plating Ashley Fauske and Hernandez, which gave Northern a 5-3 lead
  • The Huskies did not back down easily, tying the game with one run in the sixth and another in the seventh
  • St. Cloud was the team to break through in extras, notching the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth
  • Cuttic suffered the loss, giving up five earned runs on 12 hits with five strikeouts
