Wolves Wrestling Adds Eight for 2021-22

Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State University head coach Rocky Burkett announced the addition of eight student-athletes to the Wolves wrestling roster for the 2021-22 season. Teagan Block (Prior Lake, Minn.), Kelby Hawkins (Groton, S.D.), Cael Larson (Piedmont, S.D.), Tyson Lien (Huron, S.D.), Bradyn Robbins (Redfield, S.D.), Nathan Schauer (Ashley, N.D.), Tyler Voorhees (Rapid City, S.D.), and Christopher Williams (Valentine, Neb.) will join the Wolves next fall.

Teagan BlockTeagan Block | Prior Lake, Minn. | Prior Lake HS | 133
Tegan Block is a 5-foot-6, 133-pounder out of Prior Lake High School. He was a 3-year starter and 2-year team captain for the Lakers under the direction of head coach Joe Block. Block recorded 83 career victories. He is a 3-time all-conference and 3-time all-section academic performer. In addition, Block is a member of the MN Elite wrestling club out of Apple Valley, Minnesota and a 3-time Minnesota National team member. He is a Rumble on the Red and Minnesota Xmas Tournament placer. He is the son of Joe and Donelle Block.
 


KelbKelby Hawkins | Groton, S.D. | Webster Area | South Dakota State | 174
Kelby Hawkins is a 5-foot-11, 174-pounder out of Webster Area and South Dakota State. As a prep, Hawkins was a 6-year starter for the Bearcats under the direction of head coach Wade Rausch. He recorded a career record of 242-24 with 160 pins. Hawkins was a 6-time state place winner, taking second, third, fourth, and fifth at the South Dakota State Tournament. He completed a 4-year career with the Jackrabbits and will join Northern State as a graduate student in the fall. Hawkins was a 2-time first team all-academic wrestler in the Big 12. He recorded 22 career victories at SDSU, winning open titles at UNI and MSUM. He is the son of Lance and Kristie Hawkins.
 


Cael LarsonCael Larson | Piedmont, S.D. | Rapid City Central HS | 141
Cael Larson is a 5-foot-11, 141-pounder out of Rapid City Central High School. He was a 6-year starter and 3-year team captain for the Cobblers under the direction of head coach Lance Pearson. Larson tallied 193 career prep victories and holds the school record with 753 takedowns. He was the 2020 and 2021 South Dakota State A Champion and a 2-time State A Runner-up. Larson broke the South Dakota Class A state record in 2018, notching 275 takedowns. In addition, he is a USA Wrestling Folkstyle All-American, the 2021 SDWCA Wrestler of the Year, and a 2021 Argus Sports Wrestler of the Year nominee. He is the son of Brian and Nancy Larson.
 


Tyson LienTyson Lien | Huron, S.D. | Huron HS | 184/197
Tyson Lien is a 5-foot-11, 184/197-pounder out of Huron High School. He was a 6-year starter and senior team captain for the Tigers under the direction of head coach Matt Goth. Lien was a 3-time state placer, winning the South Dakota State Championship in 2020 and 2021. He broke the single season school records at Huron High School for team points and nearfalls. Lien is a 3-time All-ESD and All-State performer. He is the son of Josh and Crystal Lien.
 

Bradyn RobbinsBradyn Robbins | Redfield, S.D. | Redfield HS | 141
Bradyn Robbins is a 5-foot-6, 141-pounder out of Redfield High School. He was a 4-year starter and 2-year team captain for the Pheasants under the direction of head coach Wade Schlotter. Nelson tallied a 190-21 prep record. In 2019 and 2020, he finished as the South Dakota State Runner-up and went on to win the State Championship in 2021. Robbins was the 2021 state fall leader and the Outstanding Wrestler of the State Tournament. He is the son of Tessa and Jason Jaton.
 


Nathan SchauerNathan Schauer | Ashley, N.D. | Ashley HS | 197
Nathan Schauer is a 6-foot-1, 197-pounder out of Ashley High School. He was a 5-year starter and senior team captain for the Mustangs under the direction of head coaches Josh Hoffman and Adam Bettenhausen. Schauer is a 4-time North Dakota State placer, winning the state title in 2021 and finishing as the runner-up in 2020. He posted 129 career victories and a 26-0 record his senior campaign. Schauer was named the Region I Senior Athlete of the Year in 2021 and is a 4-time Academic All-State wrestler. In addition, he is a USA Wrestling Folkstyle All-American. He is the son of Dale and Linda Schauer.
 


Tyler VoorheesTyler Voorhees | Rapid City, S.D. | Stevens HS | 165
Tyler Voorhees is a 6-foot, 165-pounder out of Stevens High School. He was a 2-year starter and senior team captain for the Raiders under the direction of head coach Travis King. Voorhees is a 2-time state placer, as the Raiders won the State Team Champion is 2019 and 2020 and State Dual Champion in 2020. He is the son of Brent and Dawn Voorhees.
 


Christopher WilliamsChristopher Williams | Valentine, Neb. | Valentine HS | 125/133
Christopher Williams is a 5-foot-8, 125/133-pounder out of Valentine High School. He was a 4-year starter and 3-year team captain or the Badgers under the direction of head coach Shane Alison. Williams is a 4-time Nebraska State Finalist and a 2018, 2019, and 2021 State Champion. He was named to the Norfolk News All-Area team and Academic All-State team four straight years. He is the son of Sam and Melissa Williams.
