Northern State Football Signs Talented Class from Across the U.S.

Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State University head football coach, Mike Schmidt announced the addition of 44 student-athletes to the 2021 Wolves football roster today. Schmidt's second signing class hails from 12 different states, spanning ten position groups.

Viewers will hear about the 2021 class from the Northern State staff and get a glimpse at the progress on Dacotah Bank Stadium. 
 
AbbottTristan Abbott | La Crosse, Wis. | Wolsey-Wessington HS (S.D.)
Tristan Abbott is a 6-foot-2, 190-pound wide receiver out of Wolsey Wessington High School in Wolsey, South Dakota. He was a 2-year starter and senior team captain for the Warbirds under the direction of head coach Gordon Hooks. As a senior, Abbott recorded 926 yards receiving and ten touchdowns. He is a 2-time all-conference and all-state selection. The Warbirds won the 2020 South Dakota State Championship going 11-1. He is the son of Heather Abbott.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Tristan was a huge part of Wolsey-Wessington's State Championship Team in 2020. We love that he was part of a great team and great program; he is clearly a winner. He was an all-state player as a senior. He has the ability to stretch the field and be a possession receiver. Tristan is originally from La Crosse so he and I had a strong connection both of us being from Wisconsin. We're very glad Tristan decided to stay in the area and join us at Northern."
 
AguilarAndrew Aguilar | Chino, Calif. | Rubin S. Ayala HS
Andrew Aguilar is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound defensive back out of Rubin S. Ayala High School. He was a 3-year starter and team captain for the Bulldogs under the direction of head coach Arthur Gracia. Aguilar tallied 96 tackles, including 41 solo stops in his prep career. He added 12 pass breakups and seven interceptions. Aguilar is a 2-time All-Palomares League selection. He is the son of Alfred and Andria Aguilar.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Andrew is everything we're looking for in our safeties. He is big, physical, and nasty! He loves contact. That's what I have enjoyed the most while getting to know Andrew. He loves hitting guys across the middle and he loves inflicting violence all over the defensive secondary. While we were recruiting Andrew, we knew he had the potential to be a big part of what we want our defensive identity to be: Physical and Explosive."
 
BakerBrock Baker | Aberdeen, S.D. | Central HS
Brock Baker is a 6-foot-1, 210-pound linebacker out of Aberdeen Central High School. He was a 2-year starter and team captain for the Golden Eagles. He tallied five career touchdowns and six sacks over his career. Baker was a 2018 academic all-state selection. He is the son of Bob and Andrea Baker.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Brock comes back home to play some football again. He's off to a great start in our off-season program. We're so excited he came back to play some ball."
 
BlazevichAndrew Blazevich | Sioux Falls, S.D. | Lincoln HS
Andrew Blazevich is a 5-foot-11, 180-pound defensive back out of Lincoln High School. He was a 3-year starter and senior team captain for the Patriots under the direction of head coach Jared Fredenbug. In his final two seasons, Sioux Falls Lincoln went 14-4 overall advancing to the playoffs. He is the son of Nicole and James Blazevich.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "We offered Andy at our camp in the summer. He worked with me in the DB drills and we offered him right away. I didn't even wait to get off the field. We immediately offered him and have loved how he competes."
 
BlockWyatt Block | Mankato, Minn. | Mankato West HS
Wyatt Block is a 5-foot-7, 185-pound running back out of Mankato West High School. He was a 3-year starter and 2-year team captain for the Scarlet under the direction of head coach JJ Helget. As a senior, Block tallied 650 total yards, averaging 8.2 yards per carry. He also added eight rushing touchdowns. Blocks is a 3-time all-conference selection, all-state pick, and academic all-state honoree. Mankato West won the section championship in 2017 and 2020, going a combined 33-7 in his for seasons with the program. He is the son of Kris and Bill Block.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "We're a better program because of the addition of Wyatt Block. Wyatt is an astounding person from a great family and a great high school football program. He is a little ball of muscle. He isn't very tall but he plays much larger than his height. He is as tough as they get and he has the right mentality to play running back in this conference."
 
Michael BondsMichael Bonds | La Cañada, Calif. | Saint Francis HS | Miami University
Michael Bonds is a 6-foot-1, 220-pound quarterback out of Glendale Community College and Miami University. As a prep at Saint Francis High School and Newport Harbor High School, Bonds threw for nearly 5,000 yards. Bond was honored as the Sunset League Offensive Player of the Year, Angelus League Offensive MVP, Pasadena Star Offensive Player of the Year, and an all-area selection. He played one season at Glendale CC before suffering an injury, throwing for 420 yards. Bonds earned all-academic honors at both Glendale CC and Miami University. He is the son of Thomas and Julie Bonds.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Michael Bonds was made to be a QB. He has it in his blood. He carries himself like an elite QB. He's an incredible student of the game. He's a great leader and motivator. Michael adds instant competition to our QB room. He played for the 2019 MAC Champions and brings a championship pedigree and demeanor. Michael has a huge arm and can make every throw."
 
ChmielewskiKiefer Chmielewski | Kaukauna, Wis. | Kaukauna HS
Kiefer Chmielewski is a 6-foot-5, 310-pound offensive lineman out of Kaukauna High School. He was a 3-year starter for the Ghosts under the direction of head coach Matt Binsfeld. In 2020, Chmielewski was named to the Wisconsin All-State second team. He is the son of Stacey and Jamie Chmielewski and is a first generation college student. 
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Kiefer is another player who attended our summer Big Man Camp. We loved seeing him in person and offered him immediately. He's huge!!!! Definitely adds to the physical profile of our offensive line. Kiefer will be a great player for us and we love his personality."
 
ClayBlake Clay | Whittier, Calif. | La Serna HS
Blake Clay is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound defensive back out of La Serna High School. He was a 2-year starter for the Lancers under the direction of head coach Andy George. Clay recorded 63 tackles, 15 pass breakups, three interceptions, and two forced fumbles in his prep career. He was named to the 2019 Del Rio League All-Conference team. He is the son of Ali and Jason Clay.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "We're so happy Blake has joined our defensive secondary. I love how fearless he is. He's physical in the run game and has a great presence in the throw game. He has maintained over a 4.0 GPA throughout high school. He's a tremendous young man, a great student, and going to be a great player."

ClearyBobby Cleary | Slinger, Wis. | Slinger HS
Bobby Cleary is a 6-foot-1, 245-pound long snapper out of Slinger High School. He was a 2-year starter and senior team captain for the Owls under the direction of head coach Bull Jacklin. Slinger advanced to the Wisconsin State quarterfinals in both 2019 and 2020. He is the son of Robert and Rebecca Cleary.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "There's only one Bobby Cleary. Amazing long snapper from Slinger, WI. We needed to find a long snapper in this class. We found a guy who not only can step in right away to fill that position for the next four years, but we found someone who will be an unbelievable teammate. He has amazing talent and an amazing personality. He definitely will bring charisma and confidence to our special teams units."

ConnellyMadden Connelly | Sparta, Wis. | Sparta HS
Madden Connelly is a 6-foot-2, 250-pound defensive lineman out of Sparta High School. He was a 3-year starter and senior team captain for the Spartans under the direction of head coach Adam Dow. He is the son of Josh and Sarah Connelly.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "I've been watching Madden closely the past few years. He came to our camp and we loved how he played and competed. He's long and physical. He's a great high school wrestler as well. Madden will play hard every snap. He's truly an all-around great guy."
 
CrumpTavy Crump | Kenosha, Wis. | Mary D. Bradford HS
Tavy Crump is a 6-foot, 180-pound defensive back out of Mary D. Bradford High School. He was a 3-year starter and senior team captain for the Red Devils under the direction of head coach Troy Bowe. Crump tallied 28 tackles, six interceptions, and 6 pass break-ups in his first two seasons. He also added 402 yards receiving and five touchdowns. Crump is a 2-time all-conference honorable mention selection and second team all-section pick. He is the son of Cynthia and Cloyes Crump.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Tavy Crump is an absolute diamond in the rough. He's long, athletic, explosive, and a talented corner. I love his confidence. He's a man on a mission. We added him late in the recruiting process and we're so glad he decided to jump on board with us."
 
CuadraSteven Cuadra | Norco, Calif. | Norco HS
Steven Cuadra is a 6-foot-1, 175-pound defensive back out of Norco High School. He was a 2-year starter and senior team captain for the Cougars under the direction of head coach Chuck Chastain. As a junior, Cuadra tallied 33 tackles, six pass break-ups, and two interceptions. He was a second team all-selection that year. He is the son of Michelle and Steven Cuadra.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Steven is a true press man, bump and run corner. He's good and he knows it. He has tremendous confidence and loves the game. His passion for football is unmatched. He has played against some great competition in California and will be ready to compete the day he gets here."
 
EnnekingAidan Enneking | Sussex, Wis. | Sussex Hamilton HS
Aidan Enneking is a 6-foot-4, 235-pound tight end out of Sussex Hamilton High School. He was a 2-year starter and senior team captain for the Chargers. As a senior, Enneking tallied 278 yards receiving, averaging 13.9 yards per reception, with five touchdowns. Enneking is a 2-time GMC Scholar Athlete, a WFCA Academic All-State honoree, and GMC All-Conference first team selection. He is the son of Beth and Brad Enneking.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Absolute stud tight end. Aidan is physical and athletic. He's a great combination as a blocking and receiving tight end. Aidan chose Northern over some Ivy League opportunities as he is a tremendous student. He's going to be a big-time player in the NSIC."
 
FarrellJaimen Farrell | Groton, S.D. | Groton Area HS
Jaimen Farrell is a 6-foot, 220-pound running back out of Groton Area High School. He was a starter and team captain for the Tigers under the direction of head coach Shaun Wanner. As a senior, Farrell tallied 464 yards rushing with nine touchdowns and 304 yards receiving with three touchdowns. He was a 2020 all-conference and all-state selection. He is the son of Kera and David Farrell.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Jaimen is a local stud playing his senior year in Groton. He moved into the area this year and we're so glad he decided to stay. He did everything this year on the field. He was a physical monster on the defensive side as a linebacker and ran incredibly hard as a running back on offense. I love the way he plays and how physical he plays. He loves contact."
 
FodnessBrandon Fodness | Lennox, S.D. | Lennox HS
Brandon Fodness is a 6-foot-3, 185-pound defensive back out of Lennox High School. He was a 2-year starter and senior team captain for the Orioles under the direction of head coach Matthew Luze. As a junior, Fodness tallied 281 yards receiving, with six touchdowns and 89 tackles. He added seven tackles for a loss, three interceptions, two blocked kicks, and two fumble recoveries. In his senior campaign, Fodness threw for 1,454 yards with 14 touchdowns, and added 45 tackles, two interceptions, and two blocked kicks. Fodness is a 2-time all-conference and all-state selection, as well as an academic all-state and Argus Leader Elite 45 team member. He is the son of Mike and Dionne Fodness.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Brandon was all over the field for Lennox this year while starting at quarterback and safety. He can do it all. He runs well and is a rangy safety in the secondary. He's a smart football player and will be find his way onto the field for us."
 
GundersonLuke Gunderson | Buffalo, Minn. | Buffalo HS
Luke Gunderson is a 6-foot-3, 215-pound defensive back out of Buffalo High School. He was a 2-year starter and senior team captain for the Bison under the direction of head coach Craig Lachowitzer. In his career, Gunderson tallied 813 punt return yards, 699 rushing yards, 686 receiving yards, 183 kick return yards, 20 tackles, two pass break-ups, and one forced fumble. He was selected to the 2020 All-District team and named the District Special Teams Player of the Year. He is the son of John and Amber Gunderson.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Luke has football and speed in his blood. His father was a college football player and his mother ran track at Texas Tech. Luke played all over the field for Buffalo. He made a ton of plays on defense and was an outstanding running back. He's competitive and is a very smart football player. He will find a way to be very impactful player for us."
 
HernandezJustin Hernandez | Whittier, Calif. | La Serna HS
Justin Hernandez is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound defensive end out of La Serna High. He was a 2-year starter and team captain for the Lancers under the direction of head coach Andy George. Hernandez tallied 38 tackles and six sacks in his two seasons on varsity. He is a Del Rio League honorable mention selection. In addition, Hernandez won the conference championship in the 100m as a member of the track and field team. He is the son of Leonard and Roberta Hernandez.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Justin came to our camp this summer and absolutely dominated. He has an impressive wingspan and is unbelievable explosive for a defensive end. Once he develops more physically and adds some weight, he will be a dominant force on the edge of our defense."
 
HoggCarter Hogg | Aberdeen, S.D. | Central HS
Carter Hogg is a 5-foot-8, 185-pound running back out of Central High School. He was a 3-year starter and senior team captain for the Golden Eagles under the direction of head coach Mitch Kranz. Hogg tallied 1,336 career rushing yards, with 15 rushing touchdowns. In 2020, he was named to the 11AAA All-State honorable mention team. He is the son of Mike and Sarah Hogg.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "We're so happy that Carter decided to stay home. He continues a long line of Aberdeen Central players who make huge impacts for NSU football. Carter had a great senior season and was a playmaker for Central, even throwing a touchdown pass in 2020."
 
HughesPayton Hughes | Sioux Falls, S.D. | SF Lincoln HS
Payton Hughes is a 6-foot-2, 190-pound defensive back out of Sioux Falls Lincoln High School. He was a 3-year starter for the Patriots under the direction of head coach Ken Doyle. Hughes recorded 50 tackles in his senior campaign. He is the son of Tracey and Tim Hughes. Payton will also join the Northern State baseball program.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Payton follows in the footsteps of his father Tim who played football at NSU in the 90's. Payton is solid playmaker in the secondary. He's long, fast, and athletic. He's a multisport star at Lincoln High School. He's going to be fast and physical and make plays all over the field for us."
 
JamesWade James | Bismarck, N.D. | Century HS
Wade James is a 6-foot-1, 170-pound kicker out of Century High School. He was a 2-year starter for the Patriots under the direction of head coach Ron Wingenbach. James completed 98% of his field goal and extra point attempts in 2020. He earned all-conference honors as a senior and was nominated for the North Dakota Shrine Bowl. In addition, James is a 2-time State Champion with the Century football team. He is the son of Jamie and Scott Stevenson.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "I absolutely love Wade James. He has great confidence. He's a lefty which gives us a different look at that position. He is very athletic and we will be able to use that to be versatile on special teams."
 
KasperAnthony Kasper | Bolingbrook, Ill. | Joliet Catholic Academy
Anthony Kasper is a 5-foot-10, 190-pound linebacker out of Joliet Catholic Academy. He was a 2-year starter for the Hilltoppers under the direction of head coach Jake Jaworski. As a junior, Kasper tallied 42 tackles, one forced fumble, and one sack. In 2018, Joliet Catholic won the Illinois State Championship. Kasper will also be a member of the Northern State baseball team. He is the son of John and Monique Kasper.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Anthony played for a big-time high school football program at Joliet Catholic Academy in the Chicagoland area. He plays downhill really well and proved that he has the athleticism to make plays in the throw game for our defense."
 
KjetlandTyler Kjetland | Emery, S.D. | Bridgewater-Emery HS
Tyler Kjetland is a 6-foot-4, 270-pound offensive lineman out of Bridgewater-Emery High School. He was a 2-year starter and senior team captain for the Huskies under the direction of head coach Jeff VanLeur. In his final two seasons, Kjetland tallied 108 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and two fumble recoveries. He was named to the Big East All-Conference honorable mention team in 2020. Bridgewater-Emery won the South Dakota State Championship in 2019 and finished as the state runner-up in 2017, 2018, and 2020. He is the son of Bruce and Lisa Kjetland.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Tyler played for a great program that played in the State Championship game in 2020. He was the starting center and a great leader for his offense. He plays multiple sports and had opportunities to also play basketball. He's tough-nosed and everything you want out of a center."
 
KlussendorfJack Klussendorf | Waukesha, Wis. | Waukesha North HS
Jack Klussendorf is a 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker out of Waukesha North High School. He was a 2-year starter and senior team captain for the Northstars under the direction of head coach Vincent Sciano. Klussendorf tallied 166 tackles in his final two seasons, including ten tackles for a loss and two sacks. He added five forced fumbles and one interception. Klussendorf is both an all-conference honorable mention (2019) and all-conference second team (2020) selection. He is the son of Sean and Aimee Klussendorf.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Jack is a maniac on defense. He's violent and plays downhill well. He strikes and runs. A prototypical linebacker from Wisconsin, he has the mindset you want an inside backer to have. He won't back down from anyone in the A-Gap. I love it! He's a tremendous get for our program and will be a major impact player for us."
 
LarsonCharlie Larson | Rapid City, S.D. | St. Thomas More
Charlie Larson is a 6-foot-3, 205-pound linebacker out of St. Thomas More. He was a 3-year starter and 2-year team captain for the Cavaliers under the direction of head coach Wayne Sullivan. Larson recorded 105 tackles, including ten tackles for a loss, three sacks, and one interception in his career. He earned all-conference and all-state accolades. He is the son of Todd and Shelly Larson.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Charlie is a physical freak. He runs, jumps, hits and is very explosive. He's tough and confident. He plays a great brand of football and is very athletic. He will run, hit and make plays from sideline-to-sideline."
 
LispcombLatavion 'Tay' Lispcomb | Jackson, Miss. | Oak Hills HS (Calif.)
Tay Lispcomb is a 5-foot-11 165-pound wide receiver out of Oak Hills High School in Hesperia, California. He was a starter and team captain for the Bulldogs under the direction of head coach Robert Kistner. He earned all-league honors as a junior and the Bulldogs advanced to the playoffs. He is the son of Anastasia Davis.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Latavion brings an unbelievable level of speed to our wide receiver position. He has incredible upside. The ceiling is so high for Latavion. He has an awesome personality and a hunger to learn the game of football. When he was on his visit, he absorbed coaching and showed unbelievable improvement in the short time he was on his trip with us. When I first watched his film, I thought he was the fastest guy I had seen on film in a long time. He can really run."
 
LucasDonnie Lucas | Milwaukee, Wis. | Brown Deer HS | Wisconsin Stevens Point
Donnie Lucas is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound defensive back out of Brown Deer High School and Wisconsin Stevens Point. As a prep, Lucas was a 3-year starter and team captain for the Falcons. He was a 2-time All-Woodland League selection at both wide receiver and defensive back. Lucas moved on to UWSP, where he tallied 75 tackles in three seasons. He added 35 pass break-ups and five interceptions in those three seasons. Lucas was a 2-time WIAC All-Conference selection and a third team All-West Region pick. He is the son of Trinace Lucas.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "I had the pleasure and misfortune to compete against Donovan the past few years. Donovan brings a lot of playing experience against the best competition in Division III. He's been an all-conference corner and returner. I loved watching him compete and had a lot of respect for him as an opponent coaching against him. Donovan is an incredibly smart person who is a true student of the game. Our supporters are going to love getting to know this young man."
 
MackJa'arie Mack | Joliet, Ill. | Joliet Catholic Academy
Ja'arie Mack is a 6-foot-1, 220-pound running back out of Joliet Catholic Academy. He was a 4-year starter and senior team captain for the Hilltoppers under the direction of head coach Jake Jaworski. In his final two seasons, Mack tallied 548 yards rushing and 400 yards receiving. He was twice named a Player of the Week in 2018 and earned All-American second team honors in 2019. Joliet Catholic won the Illinois 5A State Championship in 2018. He is the son of Rhonda Shelton.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "This kid is one of the most explosive athletes we have seen over the past few years. On his visit, in full football gear, he landed a standing backflip. He can really jump and run. At 6'0", 220 lbs., he is an absolute load as a running back. He also played his football at a premier program in Illinois at Joliet Catholic Academy."
 
McNeilJackson McNeil | Warner, S.D. | Warner HS
Jackson McNeil is a 6-foot-2, 245-pound defensive lineman out of Warner High School. He was a 4-year starter and senior team captain for the Monarchs under the direction of head coach Kerwin Hoellein. McNeil tallied 251 career tackles and two interceptions. Offensively, he added 1,969 yards rushing, 368 yards receiving, and 30 touchdowns. McNeil is a 3-time Lake Region All-Conference honoree, 9A All-State selection, and a 9A All-American nominee. Warner finished as the 2020 South Dakota 9A State Runner-up. He is the son of Dave and Jackie McNeil.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Jackson played in the State Championship game with his Warner Monarchs. He's incredibly long-levered and plays hard with great get off on defense. He's going to be a great defensive player for us. We're so glad he decided to stay home and play ball for the Wolves."
 
MendozaEsteban Mendoza | Whittier, Calif. | La Serna HS
Esteban Mendoza is a 6-foot-2, 260-pound offensive lineman out of La Serna High School. He was a 3-year starter for the Lancers under the direction of head coach Andy George. Mendoza is a 2-time all-area and all-league selection. In 2019, he was named the team's offensive lineman of the year. He is the son of Rene Mendoza and Maria Carranza.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "We landed a great offensive lineman from California in Esteban. He's athletic and strong and can play anywhere up front. He came to our camp and was one of the most athletic OLs in camp. We immediately offered him and knew we needed to get him for the future of our OL."
 
MooreBen Moore | Kaukauna, Wis. | Kaukauna Senior HS
Ben Moore is a 6-foot, 250-pound defensive lineman out of Kaukauna Senior High School. He was a starter and captain for the Ghosts under the direction of head coach Matthew Binsfeld. Moore was named to the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Region team. He is the son of Sarah Moore.

Mason Osborn is a 6-foot-4, 310-pound offensive lineman out of Chaparral High School. He was a 3-year starter for the Firebirds under the direction of head coach Brent Barnes. Osborn allowed just one sack in his career. Chaparral High School won the Arizona State Championship in 2020. He is the son of Rachel and Robbie Osborn.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "What a stud. Serves up pancakes on almost every play. Mason played at powerhouse Chaparral in Arizona and his team won a State Championship this year. He's mean and nasty and plays physical every chance he can get. Mason chose Northern State over multiple Division I offers. He's an immediate impact player for us up front and will be a force for us over the next four years."
 
OwensVictor Owens | Denver, Colo. | Vista Peak Preparatory
Victor Owens is a 5-foot-10, 205-pound linebacker out of Vista Peak Preparatory. He was a 3-year starter and team captain for the Bison under the direction of head coach John Sullivan. In 2019, Owens tallied 1,083 yards passing, 531 yards rushing, 36 tackles, eight forced fumbles, and four sacks. He was a first team all-conference selection and a member of the Colorado Top-50 Linebackers list. Vista Peak won the Pioneer League Championship in 2019. He is the son of Naamon and Bobbi Owens.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Victor plays fast and is a very explosive athlete. He can accelerate and loves to hit. He's a tremendous student and carried a 4.0 GPA throughout high school at a college prep academy. He's smart, tough, and athletic. He has all of the tools to be a great player."

Tanner Reddan is a 6-foot-7, 350-pound offensive lineman out of Valor Christian High School. He was a 3-year letter winner for the Eagles under the direction of head coach Donnie Yantis. Valor Christian won the Colorado State Championship in 2018 and finished as the state runner-up in 2020. He is the son of Jeannie and Jim Reddan.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Tanner comes to us from Valor High School, a premier high school program in Colorado that is one of the best football programs in the country. Tanner has something we absolutely cannot teach: He's legit 6'7" ½. He's huge! He played a high level of football against tremendous competition and is a massive individual. Huge upside."
 
ReedJaden Reed | Minneapolis, Minn. | Minneapolis Southwest HS
Jaden Reed is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound defensive back out of Minneapolis Southwest High School. He was a 2-year starter and team captain for the Lakers under the direction of head coach Josh Zoucha. In 2020, Reed recorded a state leading eight interceptions. Minneapolis Southwest won the 2019 and 2020 conference championships. He is the son of Jackie Reed.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "I absolutely love how real and how confident Jaden Reed is. He's a gifted corner who is long and can really run. He knows he's good and his game speaks for itself. Coach Kirkwood was a coach on staff at Jaden's high school and I appreciate their relationship. Jaden will be a great press corner for us."
 
SatherSam Sather | Grand Forks, N.D. | Red River HS
Sam Sather is a 6-foot-3, 300-pound offensive lineman out of Red River High School and formerly Roncalli High School. As a prep at Red River and Roncalli, Sather was a 4-year starter and senior team captain. He earned all-conference and second team all-state accolades in 2020 as a member of the Roughrider football program. In addition, Sather will throw for the Wolves track and field team. He is the son of Kelsie and Paul Sather, Northern's former head men's basketball coach.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "We're so excited that Sam Sather is coming home!! Sam grew up in Aberdeen and Northern has been the home for his family. Sam's father is Paul Sather, the former head men's basketball coach at Northern State. Sam is smart and tremendous student. He is a big, strong offensive lineman who moves guys all over the field. He had a great camp for us last summer. We offered him almost a year ago when I first arrived at Northern. We knew we wanted Sam and he will be a great player for us."
 
SchmidtDawson Schmidt | Watertown, S.D. | Watertown HS
Dawson Schmidt is a 6-foot-2, 170-pound wide receiver out of Watertown High School. He was a 2-year starter and senior team captain for the Arrows under the direction of head coach John Hodorff. In his final two season, Schmidt tallied 1,733 receiving yards, averaging 22.5 yards per catch. He added 18 touchdowns, including a career high 12 as a senior. Schmidt is a 2-time all-conference and all-state selection and a member of the 2020 Argus Leader Elite 45 team. In 2019, he set the Watertown school record, notching 943 receiving yards. He is the son of Rich and Heidi Schmidt.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Dawson catches everything. He is absolutely incredible with the ball in the air. He's a big-time playmaker and will be an elite WR for us. We identified Dawson as a player we absolutely had to get in this class. He is the total package as a WR. He's athletic, fast, and catches absolutely everything that comes close to him. Dawson Schmidt is a top talent from the area and a top talent in this class."

Luke Schroeder is a 6-foot-3, 190-pound wide receiver out of Ashwaubenon High. He was a 3-year starter for the Jaguars. In the fall of 2019, Schroeder recorded ten receiving touchdowns and was named to the all-conference first team. Schroeder will also compete for the Northern State track and field team in the multi events. He is the son of Bill and Shelly Schroeder.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Luke Schroeder is a player I've been watching for the past two seasons. He has lightning speed and is a student of the game. He has maintained a 4.3 GPA in high school. He's everything a coach could want in a player. I love his confidence, swagger, passion for the game, work ethic, humility, and talent. Luke Schroeder is a big-time player. He comes from a great family. His father was a Super Bowl Champion with the Green Bay Packers."
 
SedlacekDaniel Sedlacek Jr. | Custer, S.D. | Custer HS
Daniel Sedlacek Jr. is a 6-foot-1, 205-pound linebacker out of Custer High School. He was a 4-year starter and 2-year team captain for the Wildcats under the direction of head coach David Williams. Sedlacek Jr. tallied over 300 tackles in his career and added 950 rushing yards as a senior. He is a 3-time all-conference selection and 2020 all-state pick. He is the son of Dan Sedlacek and Fiona Willis.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Daniel is very impressive with his range, athleticism, and explosiveness. He can run and hit. I love his demeanor on and off the field. Daniel is also a great student in the classroom. He's the whole package as a teammate and player on the field. He will find a way to be a great player for us."
 
Kaleb SkellyKaleb Skelly | Blaine, Minn. | Spring Lake Park HS
Kaleb Skelly is a 6-foot-4, 190-pound wide receiver out of Spring Lake Park High School. He was a 3-year starter and senior team captain for the Panthers under the direction of head coach John Stewart. Skelly was honored on the Minnesota Vikings All-State team and All-Metro squad, and named the Northwest Suburban Conference MVP. He is the son of Timothy and Melody Skelly.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Kaleb is a tremendous get for our program out of the Twin Cities area in Minnesota. Kaleb was all over the field as a playmaker for his high school team. He would catch a fade for a touchdown on one series and on the ensuing drive he would make a tackle for loss or have an interception at linebacker. He's a stud and big-time player."

Levi Sleezer is a 6-foot, 185-pound linebacker out of Alta-Aurelia High School. He was a 3-year starter and senior team captain for the Warriors under the direction of head coach Chris Reinert. Sleezer recorded 147 career tackles, including 106 solo stops. He is a 2-time all-district first team selection. He is the son of Dana and Nicky Sleezer.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Levi is just a ball player. He's a tough-nosed farm kid from Iowa. He loves to hit and plays all over the field. As a linebacker, he can make any play sideline-to-sideline. Levi is a great student in the classroom and will be an awesome teammate."

Colt Smith is a 6-foot-2, 235-pound defensive lineman out of Gretna High School. In his three seasons on varsity, Smith tallied 99 tackles, including 10.5 sacks. He added three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries playing both middle linebacker and defensive line. He is the son of Sean and Julie Smith.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Colt Smith is as good of a person as you will find anywhere. He's smart, fun, caring, and just an all-around great person. We're so happy to have Colt join us. Jacob Van Landingham is a 5-foot-11, 220-pound wide receiver out of Fred J. Page HS and Virginia Tech.  He was a 3-year starter at Fred J. Page HS, throwing for 1700 yards with 16 touchdowns in 2016. Van Landingham earned first team all-district honors as a quarterback, wide receiver, and specialist. He is the son of Monica and Ken Van Landingham and brother of NSU football student-athlete Max Van Landingham.
 
Schmidt's Breakdown: "Jacob unites with his brother Max who is currently a freshman on our roster. Jacob is everything a coach could ask for. He is already the fastest player on our team at 220 lbs. He can play almost every position on offense. A high school QB, Jacob has the ability to play any of the skill position on offense for us. He will be an unbelievable playmaker, but he is an even better person off the field."

Ryan Wojcik is a 6-foot-1, 210-pound linebacker out of St. Thomas More. He was a 3-year starter and senior team captain for the Cavaliers under the direction of head coach Wayne Sullivan. As a senior, Wojcik recorded 60 tackles, six tackles for a loss, four interceptions, four forced fumbles, and one defensive touchdown. He was named to the 2020 Black Hills All-Conference team. He is the son of Mike and Nicole Wojcik.
