Northern State Defeats Rogers State 82-74

Warrensburg, MO – The Northern State women's basketball team closed the Central Region Conference Challenge with an 82-74 win over Rogers State. In the victory the Wolves saw five of their seven players score in double figures, led by Rianna Fillipi with 24 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • While jumping out to a 7-0 lead to start the game, the Northern State defense did not allow Rogers State to score until the 5:55 mark in the first quarter
  • Lexi Roe knocked down a jumper with three seconds remaining in the first quarter to put the Wolves up 23-21 at the end of the period
  • A 3-pointer by Jordyn Hilgemann to start the second quarter and 6-0 run midway through period would give Northern a 39-32 lead going into the halftime break
  • A 3-pointer by Rianna Fillipi at the 7:13 mark in the third quarter gave Northern State their first double digit lead of the game with an 11 point advantage
  • The Wolves extended their lead to 15 in the early minutes of the fourth quarter behind a 7-0 scoring run sparked by Lexi Roe and Laurie Rogers
  • Northern shot 12-15 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to seal the win
  • NSU out-rebounded RSU 41-22, and out-scored the Hillcats 32-12 in the paint

Northern State will play on the road again next week as they travel to Rapid City to take on South Dakota Mines on Thursday night. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. for the Wolves and Hardrockers.
