Wolves Set for Dual with MSU Moorhead

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State swim team will compete in their first road dual meet of the season as they travel to face MSU Moorhead on Saturday afternoon. The meet is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. at Nemzek Pool in Moorhead, Minnesota.

NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES
  • Northern State went 1-1 in their first tri meet of the season, defeating Concordia-St. Paul 132-64 and falling to UMary 119-85
  • The 200 yard medley relay of Maddie Gonzales, Mayson, Sheldon, Lauren Forsyth, and Connor Doran, opened the meet with a second place finish and time of 1:54.02
  • The Wolves had one individual event winner, as Mia Fursedonne won the 100 back with a time of 1:02.65
  • NSU saw multiple second place finishers in the dual, with Delaney Ryken in the 100 yard free (11:35.57), Connor Doran in the 50 yard freestyle (25.96), Lauren Forsyth in the 100 yard butterfly (1:01.33), and Mayson Sheldon in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:11.50)
  • Gonzales was one of two NSU swimmers with multiple third place finishes, in the 200 IM (2:20.36) and 100 back (1:03.25)
  • The other Northern swimmer with multiple third place finishes was Haley Osborn in the 200 free (1:59.94) and 500 free (5:32.44)
  • Northern State's 400 free relay team of Haley Osborn, Fanny Legros, Marialuisa Avila, and Connor Doran, closed the meet with a first place finish and time of 3:45.42
MSU MOORHEAD STORYLINES
  • MSU Moorhead was picked sixth in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll, with a total of 24 points
  • The Dragons swimmer to watch is freshman Vasilina Shipilova from Aukland, New Zealand
    • In New Zealand, Shipilova won national titles in the 200 and 400 IM, 200 breast, and 100 back
  • In 2021 MSUM went 1-1 in dual meets, defeating Southwest Minnesota State and falling to Minnesota State
  • MSU Moorhead placed seventh in the 2021 NSIC Championships, tallying 198 points
  • The top returning performer for the Dragons from the NSIC Championships is Katelin Winter
    • Winter was eighth individually in the 200 fly
    • She was a part of four top ten relay teams at last year's conference championships (200 and 400 medley relay, 400 and 800 free relay)
LOOKING BACK TO 2019
  • Northern State and MSU Moorhead last met in a dual meet on November 22, 2019, when the Dragons defeated the Wolves 132-99 in Aberdeen
  • MSUM is 15-0 all-time in dual meets against NSU
