Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University swim team dropped their home opener to Sioux Falls on Saturday afternoon. Northern recorded 18 top-3 finishes to kick off the 2021 season.

 HOW IT HAPPENED

• In the opening event of the afternoon, the 200 medley squad of Maddie Gonzales, Mayson Sheldon, Lauren Forsyth, and Connor Doran finished third with a time of 1:53.02
• Northern's Delaney Ryken grabbed a third place finish in the 1000 free hitting the all at 11:38.66
• In the 100 back, Gonzales notched a second place finish with a time of 1:00.66; just one second behind a top finisher
• Sheldon continued her first career meet, taking second in the 100 breast (1:09.45), just one second USF's Chantal Kasch who won the race
• Forsyth placed third in the 200 fly with a time of 2:19.00
• The Wolves notched second and third place finishes in the 100 fly, as Doran and Emma Murdock timed out at 57.96 and 58.78 respectively
• The 200 back turned around similar finishes for the Wolves, with Gonzales taking second with a time of 2:15.98 and Lexie Malimanek taking third with a time of 2:24.47
• Sheldon added her second runner-up finish of the evening in the 200 breast with a time of 2:35.07, followed by Delanee Grier in third, hitting the wall at 2:48.80
• Delaney Ryken grabbed second place in the 500 free with a time of 5:44.25
