Hot Second Half Pushes Northern Women Past St. Cloud State

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University women's basketball dominated the boards tonight picking up a win against St. Cloud State on senior night. NSU found a spark in the third quarter, putting together a 12-0 run.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • It was a battle in the second quarter as the Wolves and Huskies went back and forth
  • In the second, Northern shot 52.9% from the floor and 33.3% from distance and held St. Cloud to shooting 37.5% from the field
  • Coming out of the break, the Wolves hit a 3-pointer from Rianna Fillipi taking the 31-29 lead
  • After forcing a SCSU turnover, Lexi Wadsworth extended the Wolves lead to 33-29
  • NSU then went on a 12-0 run in the third that lasted 5-minutes, pushing their lead to 14 points over the Huskies
  • Northern kept the game close throughout the final quarter of play, as they only trailed by 2-points with just under 4-minutes remaining
  • Alayna Johnson put the Wolves back on top with 3:25 remaining after grabbing her own miss in the paint and putting it back for the score
  • Midway through the fourth, the Wolves re-gained the lead and continued to hit big shots to close the door on the Huskies
  • In the game, NSU shot 38.2% from the floor, 36.4% from distance, and 78.3% from the foul line
  • The Northern bench contributed a season high 50 points in the win, as the team tallied 30 points in the paint, 20 points off turnovers, 19 second chance points, and six fast break points
  • The Wolves out-rebounded the Huskies 37-26 and forced 17 turnovers

Northern State women's basketball hits the road again next weekend traveling to Minnesota Duluth. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday.
