Wolves Swimming Concludes Busy Weekend in Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls, S.D. – Northern State University swimming raced against the University of Mary, Sioux Falls and Augustana in a pair of triple-duals from the MIDCO Aquatic Center. The Wolves scored 288 points on the day, with seven top-5 individual finishes.

Session One:
 HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Northern State kicked off the quad meet placing fourth in the 400 medley; with the team of Maddie Gonzales, Mayson Sheldon, Lauren Forsyth, and Connor Doran swimming to a time of 4:09.14
  • Forsyth swam a 5:01.95 grabbing a fifth place finish in the 400 IM and added a fourth place finish in the 100 fly finishing in 1:01.75
  • With a time of 2:16.58, Gonzales tabbed a third place finish in the 200 back

 HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The squad of Gonzales, Sheldon, Marialuisa Avila, and Doran opened the second session taking fourth in the 200 medley with a time of 1:53.30
  • In the 200 fly, Forsyth swam to a fourth place finish with a time of 2:16.24
  • Doran added a fourth place finish of her own, hitting the wall in 56.33 seconds
  • With a time of 1:01.81 in the 100 back, Gonzales landed another fourth place finish for the Wolves
  • Sheldon rounded out the individual top-5 finishes for NSU, taking fifth in the 100 breast with a time of 1:11.06
  • Doran, Delaney Ryken, Gonzales, and Emma Murdock grabbed a fifth place finish in the 800 free with a time of 8:31.79

"We asked a lot of the swimmers this weekend. We not only raced back-to-back meets, but many of them were expected to perform in back-to-back events. We have a young team and these challenging meets are an important part of our season as we head into conference next month."
 
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • Gonzales led the Wolves finishing third individually in the 200 back, while helping her 400 medley relay to a fourth place finish in session one
  • In the evening session, Gonzales tallied one individual top-5 finish and helped her relay teams to two top-5 finishes

Northern State swimming is back on the road next Saturday, January 23 heading to Bismarck to take on the University of Mary.
