Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State University head coach
Saul Phillips announced today three additions for the 2020-21 season in Zech Clemens (Northville, S.D.), Maxwell Nielson (Volga, S.D.), and Andrew Rohrbach (Aberdeen, S.D.). They will join fall signees Kobe Busch (Huron, S.D.) and Gavin Terhark (Brandon, S.D.) this fall as a solely South Dakota native class.
Zech Clemens • Northville, S.D. • Northwestern Area HS
Zech Clemens is a 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard out of Northwestern Area High School. He was a 4-year starter and senior team captain for the Wildcats under the direction of head coach Anthony Redman. Clemens averaged 25.2 and 24.3 points per game in his final two seasons. He concluded his high school career with a school record 1,725 points. Clemens is a 2-time all-conference selection, 2-time all-state honoree, 2-time Aberdeen American News All-Area team member, and the 2019 Lake Region Conference MVP. He is the son of Bill and Denise Clemens. Denise is a former Wolves student-athlete, winning the NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship in 1992 and a member of the NSU Athletics Hall of Fame.
Maxwell Nielson • Volga, S.D. • Sioux Valley HS
Maxwell Nielson is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound guard out of Sioux Valley High School. He was a 5-year starter and 2-year team captain for the Cossack under the direction of head coach Bill Vincent. Over his career, Nielson shot 50.0% from the floor, 42.0% from the 3-point line, and 83.0% from the foul line. He averaged over 16.0 points per game in his final two seasons, notching 249 rebounds, 505 assists, and 170 stelas in his career. Nielson is a 5-time all-conference honoree, 2-time all-state selection, and a South Dakota Mr. Basketball Finalist. In addition, he was named the Brookings Register Player of the Year and landed on the Argus Leader Second Five and KELO/Sanford Pentagon Top-5 teams. He is the son of Peter and Amy Nielson.
Andrew Rohrbach • Aberdeen, S.D. • Aberdeen Christian
Andrew Rohrbach is a 6-foot, 165-pound guard out of Aberdeen Christian. He was a 4-year starter and 2-year team captain for the Knights under the direction of head coach David Rohrbach. Rohrbach averaged 19.0 points, 7.9 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 2.9 steals per game, while shooting 44.0% from beyond the arc. He led the Knights to their first South Dakota State Tournament appearance in 2020. He was an all-conference selection, 2-time all-state pick, and a member of the Argus Leader Second Five and Aberdeen American News All-Area teams. He is the son of John and Vickie Rohrbach.
