Wolves Sweep Yellow Jackets in Season Opening Doubleheader

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University softball team opened 2020 on a high note with a Saturday sweep over Black Hills State University from the Presentation Dome.

GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Northern State opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, as Jen Martin doubled in Rachel Reinke, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning
  • Black Hills tied the game in the top of the third and grabbed their only lead of the contest with two more runs in the fourth
  • The Wolves regained the lead in the bottom of the frame as Reinke, Sara Bendt, and Martin hit back-to-back-to-back singles, scoring three runs
  • NSU tacked on their final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth on a 2-out double by Martin, scoring Anne Jonas who singled earlier in the inning
  • Northern combined for five runs on ten hits in their first win of the season
  • Three Wolves recorded multiple hit games in the win, while freshman Meghan Anderson recorded her first collegiate victory in the circle

  • The Wolves scored early and often in game two notching two runs in the first, three in the second, one in the third, and five in the fifth
  • The five run fifth inning secured Northern's first run rule victory of the young season
  • As a unit, NSU recorded 11 runs on 12 hits, without giving up an error defensively
  • Four Wolves tallied multiple hits in the game, while eight of the nine offensive players notched at least one
  • Dystine Priebe made the first start of her career, throwing 5.0 innings with three strikeouts in the win
