Wolves Prepare For More NSIC Play at Home

Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State women's soccer is back in action at home this weekend as they welcome the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State at 7 p.m. on Friday and the Cougars from the University of Sioux Falls at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Friday's contest will be the third and final Wolves Club tailgate of the fall, beginning at 6 p.m. on the Cortrust Bank Hospitality Room at the Athletic and Recreation Fields Pavilion.
 
ABOUT THE WOLVES
  • Northern enters the match-up with a 2-2 record overall and 0-1 mark in league play 
  • The Wolves fell to Minot State in last weekend, after opening their NSIC slate with a postponed game due to weather at the University of Mary
  • NSU is averaging one goal and just over ten shots per game entering the weekend, having just below a .500 shot on goal percentage
  • In addition, Northern has 41 total shots on goal through the first four games of 2019
  • The Wolves have had an abundance of corner kicks this season with 25, compared to their opponents only having 13
  • Shianne Rosselli leads the Wolves with a .714 shot on goal percentage and two assists on the year
  • Morgan Bury continues to be the go-to keeper for Northern, with a .920 save percentage on the 48 shots she has seen 
  • The Wolves defense has held their opponents to a .042 shot on goal percentage thus far in 2019
 
ABOUT THE MUSTANGS
  • The Mustangs enter the weekend 3-1 overall and 1-1 in NSIC play
  • In their last game, SMSU took down Wayne State 3-0 scoring all their goals in the second half of play
  • In addition, the Mustangs have two shutout wins versus William Jewell (1-0), and Wayne State (3-0)
  • Southwest Minnesota State took 13 total shots and five on goal last game while holding their opponent to seven total shots and four on goal
  • SMSU's Alex Lotts and Abbey Hoisington were the two main threats versus Wildcats with seven shots combined, and two shots on goal each
  • The Mustangs are led by head coach Erin Kasmarik-Mallett in her fifth season, and accompanied by assistant coach Nathan Phillips
 
LAST MEETING
  • The last meeting between the Wolves and Mustangs ended in a 2-1 win for Northern on September 21, 2018
  • Shianne Rosselli would net the first goal for NSU late in the second half followed by Darian Leschewski netting the second Wolves goal just before the 90 minute whistle
  • Northern State is 6-4-1 all-time against Southwest Minnesota State, dating back to October 7, 2007
 
ABOUT THE COUGARS
  • Sioux Falls is 0-4-1 on the year, after a 0-0 tie in double overtime against Augustana
  • The Cougars were held to five shots and four on goal while conceding 21 shots and 15 shots on goal
  • USF goalkeeper Alexis Wemhoff tallied 14 saves in the 110-minute double-overtime game
  • Mckayla Phillippi leads the team with three shots, all of which are on goal, for a .100 on goal percentage last weekend
  • The Cougars are led by Brittany Domino in her fifth season with USF
