Wayne, Neb. / San Louis Obispo, Calif. – The Northern State University track and field teams opened the 2019 outdoor season with 18 personal best marks and two event victories from the Wayne State Wildcat Classic and Cal Poly Shareslo Invite. The Wolves tallied a combined 19 top-5 finishes from the two meets, as well as four event victories.
 
WOMEN
HIGHLIGHTS

• Tayla Peterson kicked off competition for the women from Wayne with a second place finish in the 100m dash, crossing the line at 13.18. She went on to take seventh in the 200m with a time of 27.15
• Paige Larson and Abberly Smith took fourth and fifth in the 1500m run, finishing with times of 5:06.94 and 5:08.49
• Jordyn Sterud won the 5000m run with a time of 19:34.88
• Isabel Kinzer took fifth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:08.48
• Jordan Menken took fourth in the shot put with a 12.67m (41-6.75) toss and eighth in the discus throwing 40.38m (132-5.75) from Cal Poly
• Hanneke Oosterwegel ran to a third place finish in the 100m hurdles with a  time of 14.75, as well as an event win in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.33

 
BEYOND THE RESULTS

• Notching personal best for the Wolves were Abberly Smith (1500m, 800m), Sarah Schafer (1500m), Kylie Werner (1500m, 800m), and Jennifer Clark (1500m, 800m)

 
MEN
HIGHLIGHTS

• Jorge Garcia tallied the first top-5 finish for the men from the Wildcat Classic in the 1500m run with a time of 4:18.13
• Jackson Harrison won the 5000m run, crossing the line at 15:38.14, while Tanner Peltier took fifth in the race at 16:26.95
• TJ Hochstetler finished fourth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.72 and the pole vault clearing 4.25m (13-11.25)
• Zachary Burns also landed in the top-5 of the pole vault, clearing 4.10m (13-5.25)
• Tanner Berg took third in the shot put, throwing 15.45m (50-8.25) and seventh in the discus, throwing 43.44m (142-6.00) at Cal Poly
• Jake Olson landed in eighth in the shot put with a 14.45m (47-4.75) throw and fifth in the discus with a 46.36m (152-0.25) from Cal Poly
• Itoitz Rodriguez won the Cal Poly Shareslo Invite 400m crown, finishing with a time of 49.49, and also placed fifth in the 200m, crossing the finish line at 22.36
• Kelson Brewer came in third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.67 at the Shareslo Invite

 
BEYOND THE RESULTS

• Recording personal bests for the Wolves were Zachary Burns (pole vault), TJ Hochstetler (110m hurdles), Jacob Fritz (1500m, 800m), Jacob Rohrer (1500m, 800m), Nickolas Baier (1500m), Asher Wahl (1500m), Jared Tyrrell (100m), and Jorge Garcia (800m)
