Wolves lose close game to University of Sioux Falls Friday evening

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University women's basketball team dropped a NSIC match-up Friday evening against University of Sioux Falls by a final score of 66-73. Wolves drop to 8-15 overall and 5-12 in conference play.
 
Wolves went on a 6-0 mini run in the middle of the first quarter to take a five point lead. Wolves led by seven heading into the second quarter. Cougars worked in a 9-0 run early in the second quarter as they cut the Wolves lead to one. NSU trailed by three heading into the intermission being out-scored 13-23 in the quarter. Wolves in the first half shot 42.9 percent from the field, 60.0 percent from behind the arc, 21 rebounds, and eight assists.
 
Wolves and the Cougars each scored 16 points in the third quarter, as the Wolves trailed by three heading into the final quarter. Wolves in the fourth quarter went on a 6-0 mini run to cut the Cougar lead to three with 6:43 left in the game. Wolves were out-scored 23-19 in the fourth quarter, as the Wolves drop the game by a final score of 66-73. NSU shot 47.2 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from behind the arc, totaled 33 rebounds, 17 assists, and 25 made field goals.
 
Alayna Johnson led NSU with 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Brianna Kusler finished the game with 11 points, eight rebounds, and one assist. Jessi Marti was also in double figures with 11 points, four rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Lexi Wadsworth recorded five points, six rebounds, five assists, and one block.
 
Anika Fredrick led the bench with 11 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Brooke Luitjens was the last starter for the Wolves, finishing with one rebound, one assist, and one block. Joie Spier in 24 minutes tallied eight points, two rebounds, two assists, one block, and one steal. Tori Mekash added two three pointers off the bench for the Wolves. Zoe Hardwick recorded two points and Kendall Kohler recorded one steal.
 
Wolves are back in action tomorrow, as they match-up with Southwest Minnesota State. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. against the Mustangs.
