St. Cloud, Minn. – The Northern State University women's basketball team fell to St. Cloud State by a final score of 64-76 Friday evening. The Wolves drop to 8-11 on the season and 5-8 in the NSIC.
The Wolves trailed the Huskies by a score of 19-9 after the first quarter of play. Wolves with in the first minute cut the lead to five off a basket by Kusler. Wolves trailed the Huskies by 10 heading into the intermission. In the first half, the Wolves shot 44.0 percent from the field, 17 rebounds, and six assists on 11 field goals.
Wolves went on an 11-2 run in the third quarter to cut the lead to one before the Huskies extended the lead to six heading into the final quarter. Huskies brought the lead to nine early in the fourth quarter and did not allow the Wolves to get any closer as they lose by 12. Wolves shot 49.1 percent from the field, 6-11 from behind the arc, 34 points in the paint, 22 bench points, and 13 points off turnovers.
Wolves were led by
Lexi Wadsworth tallying 15 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.
Brianna Kusler snapped a nine game streak of double figures in rebounds as she finished with 12 points and five rebounds.
Alayna Johnson finished the game with seven points, three rebounds, and two assists.
Jessi Marti finished with seven rebounds, four points, three assists, and two steals.
Brooke Luitjens and
Zoe Hardwick each tallied 11 points off the bench, as Luitjens also recorded one rebound, two assists, and two steals, Hardwick also tallied two rebounds.
Anika Fredrick was the last starter in the lineup, recording four points, one rebound, one assist, and one steal.
Tori Mekash recorded one assist in the loss and
Joie Spier recorded three rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
The Wolves are back in action tomorrow as they match-up with the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. from Duluth.
