No. 7 Northern State Extends Streak with Victories over Lions and Vikings

Sioux Falls, S.D. – The No. 7 Northern State University volleyball team rounded out non-conference action with two wins over Lindenwood and No. 22 Augustana. With the wins, the Wolves improve to 8-0 overall, suffering just one set loss to the Vikings.
 
NSU rolled past Lindenwood in the opening match of the day with set scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-7. The Wolves hit a season high .516 in the match, with 52 kills, 43 digs, six blocks, and five aces. The held the Lions to a .152 hitting percentage, with just 29 kills and 15 attack errors.
 
Morgan Baufield, Jenna Reiff, and Sally Gaul led the Wolves offense with ten kills each. Hailey Busch and Laura Snyder followed eight behind with nine each, while Ashley Rozell grabbed the final five. Baufield and Snyder each hit a team high .750 in the win, while Reiff hit .600.
 
Rozell paced the offense with 43 assists, averaging 14.33 assists per set. The junior also led the team with three service aces, and grabbed a team second best nine digs. Jaiden Langlie led the defensive effort with 13 digs, while Lexi Boesl notched six, and Bry Goar and Busch tallied five. Baufield led the team at the net with four blocks, while Busch tallied three, and Reiff and Snyder each recorded two.
 
The Wolves battled with the Vikings in the night cap, notching their first 4-set match of the season. Northern opened the match with a 25-21 set one victory, before falling 26-24 in set two. NSU quickly re-grouped, taking both the third and fourth sets with a score of 25-16.
 
Northern hit .312 in the match with 64 kills, 64 digs, eight aces, and seven blocks. They forced 19 Augie attack errors on defense, as the Vikings hit .209.
 
Busch recorded her first double-double of the season, leading the team with 22 kills and recording a team second best 12 digs. The senior hit .340 in the match, adding one ace and three blocks. Snyder was second offensively with 15 kills, however led the team hitting at a .619 clip. She also tallied four digs and one block. Reiff was the final Wolf on offense in double figures with 13 kills, hitting .360 in the win. Finally Gaul tallied nine kills, while Baufield and Rozell rounded out the team total with three and two respectively.
 
Langlie again led the team from the back row with 19 total digs, averaging 4.75 per set. She also tallied a team high two aces, alongside Baufield and Rozell. Boesl also found herself in double figures with ten digs, followed by Rozell with eight and Goar with six. Rozell continued to dish out diamonds in the match with 57 total assists, averaging 14.25 per set.
 
The win marks the first for the Wolves this season over a top-25 opponent, and the first against the Vikings since 2015.
 
Northern returns to action on Wednesday for the NSIC and home opener versus the University of Mary. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. from the Barnett Center.
