NSU Swimming heads east to compete against St. Cloud and Northern Michigan

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State Swimming team heads east for a non-conference and conference dual meet Friday and Saturday in Marquette, Michigan. The two opponents for the Wolves will be St. Cloud State and Northern Michigan. The meet will start at 6 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday.
 
NSU competed in a Triangular last weekend at Augustana University and lost both dual matches to University of Mary by a score of 167-259 and Augustana by a score of 116-292. NSU picked up 17 top-five finishes and five first place finishes over the weekend. The Wolves picked up a second place finish in the 400 freestyle relay, a third place finish in the 200 and 800 freestyle relay, a fourth place finish in the 200 medley relay, and a fifth place finish in the 400 medley relay. Sierra Ohm and Josie Gillund picked up a personal record in the 400 freestyle relay.
 
Hannah Kastigar earned swimmer of the Week for the NSIC with first place finishes in the 400 Individual Medley, 200 butterfly, 100 butterfly, 200 breaststroke, and 200 Individual Medley. Kastigar nationally qualified in the 400 Individual Medley, 200 butterfly, and the 200 Individual Medley. Kalina Emaus picked up a fifth place finish in the 1650 freestyle and a fourth place finish in the 200 yard butterfly.
 
Gillund picked up a third place finish in the 100 freestyle, a fifth place finish in the 200 freestyle, fourth place finish in the 1000 freestyle, and a fifth place finish in the 50 freestyle. Cassandra Maillet picked up a fourth place finish in the 100 breaststroke and a fifth place finish in the 200 breaststroke.
 
About St. Cloud:
  • Picked first in the NSIC Preseason Poll with 34 points and four first place votes, one ahead of Minnesota Mankato.
  • The Huskies return a large group of veterans from last season that placed second at the NSIC Championships.
About Northern Michigan:
  • Northern Michigan returns 11 seniors to the roster this year and five juniors.
  • Competed against Findlay and division 1 Bowling Green last weekend going 2-1 over the weekend defeating Findlay twice.
