Vikings Come into Wachs Arena and Knock off the Wolves

Aberdeen S.D. – The #20 Northern State women's basketball team fall to #11 Augustana University 64-77 Saturday afternoon from Wachs Arena. With the loss, the Wolves are 14-3 overall and 10-2 in conference play.

The Wolves were down 23-6 after one quarter of play and could not recover after the slow start. The Vikings out-scored the Wolves 23-13 in the second quarter, however NSU started the second half on a 14-5 run, cutting the lead to 18. They won that quarter 26-15 but it was not enough to overcome the early deficit.

NSU shot 37.7 percent from the floor, 40.0 percent from the 3-point line, and had 40 rebounds as a team. Defensively, the Wolves held the Vikings who shot 39.1 percent from the floor and 24.0 percent behind the arc. The Wolves had game leading 15 assists on 23 field goals.

Haley Froelich led the Wolves in scoring with 14 points, she also added three rebound and two assists. Jill Conrad and Alexis Tappe added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Wolves, with Tappe notching four assists, and Conrad going 2-for-2 from behind the arc. Miranda Ristau was the last player in double-figures with 11 points and six rebounds.

Brianna Kusler had one point, five rebounds, four steals, and four assists. Alayna Johnson added nine points and two rebounds. Sara Tvedt had two points and three rebounds, while Gabby Laimer got the last three points for the Wolves connecting on her only shot of the game.

The Wolves are back in action at Wachs Arena Monday Night at 6 p.m. against Presentation College.
