Duluth, Minn.  – In the final games of the regular season, the Northern State University baseball team came away with a Saturday sweep of Minnesota Duluth. The two wins improve the Wolves to 24-26 overall and 17-21 in the NSIC. With games still to play in the league, the Wolves sit ninth overall coming up just short of the NSIC Tournament.
 
The two teams were scoreless through the first three innings of game one, however the Wolves took the lead in the fourth and fifth putting up crooked numbers in each frame. Lucas Lorenz led off the fourth inning with a homerun which was his 14^th of the season. Jack Schmidt walked the next at-bat and came around to score on a first and third throwing error by the Bulldog pitcher. Ben Allen scored the final run of the inning, as Ashton Williamson singled through the right side. Northern added two more runs in the fifth, again of the bat of Lorenz who homered to left center field, scoring Mikey Barreneche who singled in the previous at-bat. Despite a UMD comeback in the sixth the Wolves five runs held up for the 5-4 victory.
 
Lorenz led the team going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI. He was the lone Wolf to record multiple hits in the win, notching his 14^th and 15^th homeruns of the season. Barreneche, Williamson, and Jack Schmidt each added a single.
 
Louie Carlos started his final game for the Wolves throwing 5.2 innings with four earned runs on four hits and six strikeouts. Carlos finishes the year with a 4-3 record overall. Sam Krapf earned his first save of the season throwing the final inning and a third. The junior held the Bulldogs hitless with just one walk.
 
Northern scored first in game two with one run in their first plate appearances of the contest. Duluth quickly fought back taking the 2-1 lead in the fourth, however Northern added another three runs in the sixth and seventh, as well as five runs in the ninth securing the 9-2 victory. NSU tallied 11 hits in the win with four players notching a multiple hit game.
 
Tyler Gripentrog, Mikey Barreneche, Lucas Lorenz, and Jack Schmidt each went 2-for-5. Schmidt and Lorenz tallied two runs scored and two RBI, as Schmidt hits his 11^th homerun of the season. Barreneche also added two RBI of his own, while Gripentrog tallied a run scored and a run batted in. Ben Allen, Zach Beatty, and Ben Carolin each recorded a single as well.
 
Thomas Sertic started on the hill throwing 6.2 innings in his sixth win of the season. The junior gave up just two earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts. Isaiah Greene and Sam Krapf entered in relief, holding the Bulldogs scoreless and give up two hits apiece.
 
Northern State seniors Jordan Goracke, Tyler Gripentrog, Easton Lopez, Ben Allen, Mikey Barreneche, Ashton Williamson, Kris Johnson, Nick Hoffard, Isaiah Greene, Brandon Ruud, Phil Sauer, Louie Carlos, Zachary Toben, Chris Gonzales, and Zach Beatty played their final games in an NSU uniform.
