Duluth, Minn. – The Northern State University women's basketball team earned their third-consecutive victory, defeating Minnesota Duluth 60-57 on the road. With the three point win, the Wolves improve to 19-6 overall and 15-6 in the NSIC, while the Bulldogs fall to 13-12 overall and 11-10 in conference play.
Northern State jumped out to an early lead in the contest, outscoring Minnesota Duluth 17-10 in quarter one. The Bulldogs responded in the next ten minutes gaining their largest lead of the night with an eight point advantage with two minutes left in the half. The two teams would close out the first two quarters with a score of 28-24.
NSU gained momentum by going on an 8-2 run to kick start the third quarter. With 23 team points, the Wolves would close out the third with a seven point lead. UMD fought back in the final quarter by outscoring the Wolves however it was not enough as Northern State sealed the victory by shooting 4-of-4 from the foul line in the last 1:11.
As a unit, NSU shot 42.0 percent from field goal range, 30.0 percent from the three point arc and 83.3 percent from the charity stripe, while collecting 24 points in the paint, eight points off turnovers, eight points off the bench and 11 second chance points.
Miranda Ristau led all scorers on the night with 19 total points, shooting 6-of-13 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the foul line. Ristau also added five of Northern State's six blocks defensively.
Brianna Kusler followed up with 11 points and a career-high nine rebounds for the Wolves.
Paige Waytashek was the final starter to score in double-digits, recording ten points against the Bulldogs. Both Kusler and Waytashek each nabbed two steals.
The Wolves will continue action from the road for their final regular season game of the year. Tip-off against the St. Cloud State Huskies will begin at 4 p.m.
