Wrestling Concludes Regular Season this Thursday & Friday at Home

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University wrestling team concludes the regular season this Thursday and Friday from Wachs Arena. The Wolves will host the University of Mary and Minot State at 7 p.m. each day. Northern will celebrate Parents Night on Thursday and Senior Night on Friday.
 
The Wolves enter the duals with a 4-11 record overall and 0-6 mark in league action, as they search for their first conference victories of the year. Northern opened the month of February ranked No. 8 in Super Region Three and No. 19 in the nation. Tyler Stenberg, Sean Havlovic, and Joe Gomez each garnered nationally rankings sitting at No. 11, No. 8, and No. 4 in their respective weight classes.
 
Blake Perryman and Tyler Stenberg lead the team with 21 and 20 victories this season, while Joe Gomez and Sean Havlovic each have 16. Gomez tallied his 98th career victory last week against Minnesota State, and has the potential to become the 11th member of the 100 career win club at NSU. Despite an open weight at 133 in the second half of the season, the Wolves have battled hard seeing strong performances from freshman Harrison Townsend at 285 points.
 
About U-Mary
- The Marauders enter the week 7-8 overall and 2-5 in the league with wins over MSU Moorhead and Minot State.
- U-Mary is ranked No. 12 in Super Region Three after the January 31 poll.
- Two Marauders are also ranked individually in No. 6 Josh Jensen at 125 and No. 6 Tate Barnhardt at 133.
- Mary is led by head coach Adam Aho in his fourth season with the program.  
 
Last Season
- The Wolves defeated the Marauders 29-21 in non-conference action, however fell 33-13 in the NSIC dual.
- Three Wolves notched wins in the conference dual as Perryman defeated Dane Fisher 10-7, David Murphy defeated Riley Nagel by fall at 4:38, and Gomez downed Tom DeVito 15-4.
 
About Minot State
- The Beavers enter the week with a 4-14 record overall and 0-6 mark in league action, matching up with both the Wolves and MSU Moorhead.
- Minot is current ranked No. 13 in Super Region Three with two regionally ranked individuals in No. 8 Cody Haugen at 149 and No. 7 Mitch Eull at 285.
- MSU is led by head coach Evan Forde in his second season with the program.
 
Last Season
- The Wolves came away with the 24-21 victory over Minot State in 2015-16.
- Northern notched two pins from Carson Henry and Joe Gomez for half of the team's points.
- Gomez defeated Hunter Hart at 4:36 in the match.
- Tyler Stenberg defeated Cody Haugen in an 8-5 decision, while Murphy notched a 7-4 win over Briley Crissler.
