Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University swimming team nabbed their second win of the season Friday evening, defeating Minnesota Morris 158-73 in non-conference action. As a unit, the Wolves won ten out of 11 swimming events, breaking three pool records in the process. With the win, NSU improves to 2-11 in dual meets this season.
The Wolves started off the meet with the 200 medley relay, where the team of
Edda Skoric,
Kady Harris,
Karlie Brown, and
Sierra Ohm notched a first place finish with a time of 1:57.49. All four Wolves went on to tally top-3 finishes from the meet after kicking things off with a bang.
Kalina Emaus led NSU with three first place finishes in the 1000 free (11:08.04), 200 fly (2:18.39), and 500 free (5:29.27). Emaus' 1000 free win was the first pool record of the evening for the Wolves. The junior swept her events defeating the next closest opponent by 35 seconds in the 1000 free, six seconds in the 200 fly, and eight seconds in the 500 free.
Josie Gillund and
Jordan Metz rounded out the top-3 in the 1000 free notching times of 11:43.07 and 11:48.81 respectively. Metz's time was a personal record for the freshman by 12 seconds.
Edda Skoric notched two first place finishes in the 200 free with a time of 2:01.91 and 200 back with a time of 2:17.63. Maida Walters and
Ashley Dunn rounded out the top-3 in the 200 free hitting the wall at 2:02.99 and 2:06.26. The All-American tallied the third pool record of the evening for the Wolves in the 200 back. She was followed by freshman Lexie Malimanek in second with a time of 2:21.04.
Kady Harris also nabbed two first place finishes in the 50 free with a time of 26.13 and 200 breast with a time of 2:39.31, while
Karlie Brown notched a first place finish in the 400 IM crushing the pool record with a time of 4:51.88. Brown also nabbed a second place finish in the 200 fly. Following Harris in the 50 free were
Gentry Musgrove and
Jamie Fuse in second and third, notching times of 27.11 and 27.29.
Malimanek, Walters, Dunn, and Gillund capped off the meet nabbing a first place finish in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:45.73. The team defeated the Morris relay by nearly four seconds in the race.
The Wolves will be back in the pool next Friday at 4 p.m. as they compete against Augustana in their final home meet of the season. The meet will be held at the Aberdeen YMCA.
