Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University soccer team defeated Upper Iowa 2-1 in overtime, breaking an three-game loss streak. The Wolves improve their season record to 5-9-1 overall and 4-8-1 in the NSIC, while the Peacocks drop to 4-10-1 overall and 4-8-1 in conference play.

Two minutes into the match, Stephany Estrada beat the defender and slide a cross ball in to Shainne Rosselli, who tapped the ball over the keepers head, giving the Wolves the 1-0 lead.  UIU answered back with a goal early in the second half to tie the game 1-all sending it into overtime.

With time dwindling in the first overtime period the Wolves won a corner kick. Nicole Griffith took the kick for NSU and sailed it to the middle of the box for the diving Sydney Shintaffer to head the ball in for the game-winning goal.

As a team, NSU recorded five shots and three shots on goal with three corner kicks. Rosselli and Shintaffer both tallied two shots and one goal, while Estrada recorded one shot, one shot on goal, and one assist. Justine Charles registered 13 saves in 100 minutes of play, notching her fifth win of the season.

The Wolves return to Jerde Field for their last home game of the season at 3 p.m. on Friday October 27th versus Minot State. NSU will then hit the road one last time to Bismarck, N.D. for a match-up against U-Mary on Sunday afternoon.
