Aberdeen, S.D. - In their first dual of 2017, the No. 7 Northern State University wrestling team fell to No. 18 Augustana University 32-9 from Wachs Arena. The Wolves drop to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in league action.

Tallying wins for the Wolves were
Tyler Stenberg,
Tanner Olson, and
Joe Gomez. Stenberg opened the wins for the Wolves as they trailed 12-0 heading into the 149 pound match. The senior defeated Bailey Neises in a 5-0 decision. Stenberg notched a takedown in the first, and a reversal with riding time in third to secure the victory.

Olson defeated Brent Havlik at 174 pounds in an 8-5 hard fought decision. After falling behind in the first, Olson bounced back with an escape and takedown to take the 3-2 lead. Havlik tied things up again in the second, however the Wolves junior added two takedowns in the period and an escape in the third for the win.

Gomez notched the final win of the night, defeating Clayton Wahlstrom in a 7-3 decision. The two were scoreless through the first period of action. Gomez came out in the second with an escape and takedown to take the lead which he held throughout the match. Wahlstrom battled back, however the Wolves senior added a pair of takedowns in the third to lengthen the lead.

Up next for the Wolves is the Midwest Duals hosted Nebraska Kearney on January 14
th. Northern will face San Francisco State, CSU Pueblo, Colorado Mesa, and New Mexico Highlands.
