Wolves Fall to Blue Hawks on the Road

Dickinson, N.D. – In their final non-conference dual of the season, the Northern State University wrestling team fell to Dickinson State 24-20. The Wolves drop to 4-9 overall this season despite winning five of the ten matches.
 
With the Wolves down 12-0 through the first three weights, Tyler Stenberg broke things open. The senior defeated Travis Koenig by fall just 20 seconds into the match. The Blue Hawks lengthened their lead at 157-pound, however Ben Fichter responded with a win in the 165-pound match. Fichter defeated Devan Williams in a 6-5 decision.
 
Tanner Olson kept the wins rolling at 174-pounds, defeating Jason Zecchini in a 10-1 major decision. Down 24-13 heading into the 197-pound match, the win was still within reach. . Northern needed sweep the final two weights by fall in order to secure the dual victory.  Joe Gomez notched his 14th victory of the season defeating Jon Solano in a 9-1 major decision victory earning four team points.
 
Although Dickinson State had sealed the dual victory Harrison Townsend wrestled hard in the 285-pound match. The freshman defeated Ethan Goss-Dickie in a 9-4 decision, scoring three more team points for the Wolves.
 
Northern returns to action this Sunday from Wachs Arena. The Wolves will face off against Southwest Minnesota State at 2 p.m. as a part of the I Hate Winter weekend. NSU wrestling will host a pre-match Super Bowl tailgate beginning at 12:30 p.m. with free food and activities.
