Bismarck, N.D. – Competing in their first pentathlon style meet of the season, the Northern State swim team defeated U-Mary in each of the five events with 72 team points. Junior
Hannah Kastigar was crowned the individual champion, topping opponents in the 50 yard butterfly, 50 yard backstroke, 50 yard breaststroke, 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard IM.
NSU finished with five swimmers in the top-10 for individual scores. Kastigar received 45 total points for her first place overall finish, followed by
Kayla Sproles and
Edda Skoric tying for third. Kastigar broke three school records posting 26.13 in the 50 yard butterfly, 30.16 in the 50 yard breaststroke and 58.22 in the 100 yard IM.
Sproles tallied second in the 50 yard free (25.48), third in the 50 yard butterfly (27.60) and fifth in the 50 yard backstroke (29.20), while Skoric earned second in the 100 yard IM (1:02.50), third in the 50 yard back (29.13) and fourth in the 50 yard breast (32.67).
Kady Harris and
Karlie Brown notched sixth and seventh place for the Wolves. Harris hit the wall for second place in the 50 yard breast (32.51) and fifth place in the 100 yard IM (1:04.65), while teammate
Karlie Brown had a fourth and fifth place finish in the 100 yard IM (1:03.97) and 50 yard butterfly (28.28).
Kamie Wagar was the final NSU swimmer to finish in the top-10, placing ninth overall. Wagar recorded two individual points for the Wolves with a fourth place finish in the 50 yard butterfly (28.19).
As a unit, Northern State closed out the meet with 55 season bests throughout the pentathlon. The Wolves will continue action February 7
th- February 10
th at the NSIC Championships in Rochester, Minnesota.
