Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University men's basketball team swept the NSIC North home stand, after a 73-64 victory over Minnesota Duluth on Saturday. With the win, the Wolves improve to 13-6 overall and 9-4 in league play.
All five NSU starters recorded double-digits, accounting for 68 of the team's 73 points.
Ian Smith led the attack with 19 points, shooting 6-of-8 from the floor. Smith added a team leading two assists, as well as
Mack Arvidson and
Carter Evans.
Logan Doyle was second on the team with 15 points and a team leading nine rebounds, five blocks, and two steals.
Gabe King followed with 12 points, while
DJ Pollard and Arvidson notched 11 points each.
The Wolves led 45-32 at the half, after shooting 50.0 percent from the floor and 41.7 percent from the arc. Duluth battled back, out-scoring Northern in the second half, however the 13 point first half led held up in the victory. NSU added a game leading 34 points in the paint, 18 points off turnovers, and 13 second chance points. Northern also did a better job of taking care of the ball with just five turnovers in the win.
Evans added the team's final five points in the game, while notching a team second best six rebounds. Pollard also added six rebounds, as the Wolves out-rebounded the Bulldogs 37-34. A total of seven Wolves notched multiple rebounds in the game.
Northern also continued to shoot well from the foul line, knocking down 17-of-24. Three Wolves shot 70.0 percent or better in Doyle, Smith, and Pollard. King led the team with three made 3-pointers, while Evans added two blocks.
The Wolves hit the road next week heading south to face Sioux Falls on Friday and Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday.
