Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University wrestling team jumps back into NSIC action this weekend, traveling to St. Cloud State and Upper Iowa. The Wolves will wrestle each team at 2 p.m. with the Huskies on Saturday and the Peacocks on Sunday.
The Wolves enter the weekend after moving to No. 7 regionally and No. 14 nationally in the latest Division II wrestling polls. The five wrestlers ranked regionally are No. 4
Richard Casillas at 125 pounds, No. 1
Tyler Stenberg at 149 pounds, No. 4
Blake Perryman at 157 pounds, No. 1
Sean Havlovic at 165 pounds, and No. 4
Joe Gomez at 197 pounds. The Wolves also tallied three ranked in the nation in No. 2 Stenberg, No. 7 Havlovic, and No. 11 Gomez. Four Wolves have double-digit wins this season led by
Blake Perryman with a 21-7 record.
Tyler Stenberg and
Sean Havlovic follow with 17-3 and 16-5 records respectively, while
Joe Gomez is 11-5.
Northern is 4-5 overall and 0-1 in the NSIC after coming off a four dual weekend from Nebraska Kearney. The Wolves tallied wins over San Francisco State (24-21) and New Mexico Highlands (27-18). A total of six Wolves tallied at least one victory on the day. Stenberg was named the NSIC wrestler of the week going a perfect 4-0 from the Midwest Duals. The senior out-scored his opponents 66-27 in the four matches and defeated two regionally ranked opponents.
