Volleyball Splits in Final Day of Action from St. Paul

St. Paul, Minn. – After falling to the No. 1 ranked Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears to open day two of action, the Northern State University volleyball team bounced back to take down Truman State 3-1. The Wolves finish the weekend with a 3-1 record overall, with a win over No. 5 Western Washington and two victories over Truman State.
 
Match 1 – No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul
 
Northern opened the day against a strong Golden Bears squad who hit .692 in the three set match. The Wolves were unable to hold of the potent CSP offense which tallied 61 kills and only one error in each of the three sets, falling with set scores of 25-13, 25-14, and 25-12.
 
Holly Vancura led the NSU squad for the third straight match with six kills and seven digs. She was followed by Tori Biach, Jenna Reiff, and Kellie Schmit with five kills apiece. Biach was the lone NSU hitter above 300 in the game, with a .444 attack percentage. Lauren McCafferty added the team's final two kills in the match, while setter Ashley Rozell tallied 19 assists.
 
Rozell was second on the team with six digs, followed by Alyssa Deobler and Jaiden Langlie with four each, and Annika van Oosbree and Lauren McCafferty with three apiece.  
 
Match 2 – Truman State
 
The second match of the day found the Wolves in control after a 25-20 set one loss to the Bulldogs. Northern worked back to secure the victory with three straight 25-21 set wins.
 
Biach and Reiff led four Wolves in double-digits with 15 kills apiece in the win. Biach hit a team leading .536 and added three blocks. Vancura and Schmitt followed with 13 and 11 kills respectively, while Schmit was second the team with a .364 attack percentage.
 
Van Oosbree led the NSU defense with 15 digs, followed by Vancura and Rozell with 12 each and Deobler with 11. Northern tallied 61 digs in the victory and held the Bulldogs to a .241 mark as a team. Rozell tallied another solid outing for NSU, serving up 53 assists and adding one kills, two service aces, and four blocks.
 
Northern tallied 58 kills to Truman's 56 in the match and added 13 blocks and seven service aces. Also TSU notched nine aces and 16 blocks of their own, the Wolves were able to cut down on their attack errors with just 16 to the Bulldogs 21 in the match.
 
The Wolves return to action next weekend from Arkadelphia, Arkansas and the Henderson State/Quachita Baptist Tournament. NSU will face Henderson, Quachita, Arkansas Tech, and Southern Arkansas in four matches on Friday and Saturday.
