Wolves Unable to Mount Comeback in 1-0 Loss to Bulldogs

Box Score Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University soccer team dropped a close 1-0 match this Sunday afternoon against the University of Minnesota Duluth. With the loss, the Wolves fall to 4-3-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the NSIC, while the Bulldogs improve to 4-2-2 and 2-1-2 in league action.

Minnesota Duluth hopped on the scoreboard early in the match, as junior Skye Finley laid the ball into the box for Taylor Johnson to strike it past senior goalkeeper, Stacey Cavill.

Finding the net just four minutes into the game, the goal would eventually go on to be the only score for both teams as they battled back and forth for the remaining minutes of play.

UMD led the two teams offensively, outshooting Northern State 17-7. The Bulldogs compiled eight shots on goal compared to the Wolves four total. Minnesota Duluth took advantage of their seven corner kicks offensively, while NSU came up empty handed from their end of the pitch.

Senior Anna Bondy once again led the Northern State offense, recording three shots, two of which on track for goal. Kay Hernandez also produced opportunities for the NSU offense, creating two breakaways for two shots in the match.

Goalkeeper Stacey Cavill allowed just one goal, aiding the Wolves' defense with seven saves on the day.

Wolves soccer will return to action next weekend on the road, facing Wayne State at 1 p.m. on Saturday and taking on Augustana at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
