Aberdeen, S.D.- The Northern State University soccer team will open regular season play from home this weekend against the newly inaugurated Black Hills State soccer program. After coming out on top in their first two exhibition games against Presentation College and Dakota Wesleyan University, the Wolves will look to continue their success from Jerde Field on Sunday.
Wolves Soccer heads into the 2016 season anticipating success on both ends of the field with 12 returning letter winners; offensive players
Anna Bondy,
Darian Leschewski,
Kay Hernandez and
Karli Harney appeared in all 18 games, alongside defensive teammates
Sydney Shintaffer and
Alexis Lewis.
Anna Bondy and
Darian Leschewski were the Wolves' main offensive threat a season ago, sitting first and third respectively on the team in points, goals, shots, and shots on goal.
In their most recent exhibition game against Dakota Wesleyan, Northern State posted five total goals from five different student-athletes.
Kay Hernandez,
Anna Bondy,
Alexis Lewis,
Carly Van Oostendorp, and
Taylor Schumacher each found the net for goals, while redshirt sophomore
Darian Leschewski led the team with nine shots on goal. The Northern State defense held the Tigers to just six total shots.
As alternating goalkeepers,
Justine Charles and
Stacey Cavill have been solid in the net, shutting out both PC and DWU.
Kickoff between the Wolves and the Yellow Jackets begins at 2 pm on Sunday afternoon.Â
