Wolves Return to Wachs Arena for Weekday Match Versus MSUM

– The Northern State University volleyball team will continue NSIC action tomorrow night, taking on the visiting Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons. The Wolves return home to Wachs Arena with a 2016 season record of 9-1 and an NSIC record of 2-0.
 
NSU came away with two victories in their opening weekend of conference play, defeating both U-Mary and Minot State. As a unit, Northern State hit .336 with 47 kills against the Marauders, and added 49 kills and 12 team blocks against the Beavers. The Wolves currently sit top-3 in the league in hitting percentage (.313), opponent hitting percentage (.134), and digs (17.86). Northern State also leads the NSIC in service aces, averaging 1.86 per set.
 
Redshirt freshman, Ashley Rozell, paced the NSU offense this past weekend with 90 assists. The NSIC Setter of the Week combined for five service aces, 18 digs, two blocks and one kill in the two victories. Rozell is currently second in the nation with a 12.22 assists per set average.
 
Kellie Schmit led the team in the victory over the Marauders knocking down 11 kills and hitting .647 without an attack error, while Lauren McCafferty led the Wolves in night two with 14 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Annika van Oosbree led the team defensively in the weekend matches, averaging 4.29 digs per set with 30 total. 
 
Northern State will face off against the Dragons at 7 p.m. from Wachs Arena.
 
About the MSU Moorhead
  • The Dragons are currently 6-4 overall in the 2016 season, with an NSIC record of 1-1. MSUM defeated Minot State 3-0 in their conference opener, however, fell to U-Mary 3-1 in their second match.
