Box Score Moorhead, Minn. – The Northern State University women's soccer team downed their first NSIC opponent of the 2016 season this afternoon, outscoring Minnesota State Moorhead 4-0 in 90 minutes of action. With the victory, the Wolves improve to 3-0 on the year and 1-0 in conference play, while the Dragons fall to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the NSIC.
Scoring began instantly for the Wolves, as freshman
Shianne Rosselli connected with
Anna Bondy for an open look into the net. Just 15 seconds in, Bondy drilled the first of three goals past MSUM goalkeeper, Reagan VonBerge, to put the Wolves up 1-0.
At the 25 minute mark,
Anna Bondy added to the Wolves' lead, once again receiving a pass from
Shianne Rosselli. NSU continued their offensive momentum, finding the net for a third time just minutes later.
Darian Leschewski placed the ball past VonBerge to give the Wolves a three-goal advantage in the match before the end of the half.
Early into the second period,
Anna Bondy connected for the final goal of the match, completing her third consecutive hat trick. The score would remain 4-0 in favor of NSU for the last 35 minutes of play, giving the Wolves their first NSIC victory of the 2016 season.
As a team, Northern State outshot MSUM 27-7. Of the Wolves' 27 shots, 15 were on target.
Anna Bondy led the offense with eight shots, seven shots on goal and three goals.
Darian Leschewski also compiled three shots on goal, an assist and a goal of her own, while
Shianne Rosselli aided the Wolves with two assists.
With a solid defense to support her, senior goalkeeper
Stacey Cavill rounded out Northern State's first shutout of the season. Cavill collected three saved and faced seven total shots.
The Wolves return home next weekend to continue conference action from Jerde Field, taking on Southwest Minnesota State at 1 p.m. on Saturday and the University of Sioux Falls at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
