Arkadelphia, Ark. – The Northern State University volleyball team made it a 4-0 weekend after clean sweeps of both Ouachita Baptist and Southern Arkansas. The Wolves improve to 7-1 overall heading into the NSIC opener next week.
Match 1 – Ouachita Baptist
Northern State made easy work of Ouachita Baptist in the opening match of the day, taking down the Tigers 25-15, 25-23, and 25-14. In the three set match, the Wolves tallied 47 kills, a .340 attack percentage, 44 digs, six blocks, five service aces, and 47 assists off the back of
Ashley Rozell. The freshman tallied all 47 assists in the win, and added three block assists on defense.
Holly Vancura led three hitters with double-digit kills, knocking down 14 in the game. Vancura hit .44 with just two errors, and added ten digs and two blocks.
Kellie Schmit and
Tori Biach followed with 12 and ten kills respectively. Biach led the team with a .714 attack percentage, recording ten kills in 14 swings with no errors.
Freshman
Jenna Reiff knocked down nine kills, and was second on the team with a .450 attack percentage with no attack errors.
Lauren McCafferty rounded out the team total with two kills in two sets played.
Annika van Oosbree led the team on defense with 15 digs in the game. The Wolves libero also tallied a service ace.
Jaiden Langlie added nine digs of her own, while
Amanda Tobin and
Lauren McCafferty notched four and two respectively.
Match 2 – Southern Arkansas
After a sweep of Ouachita Baptist, the Wolves followed with a sweep of Southern Arkansas with set scores of 25-21, 25-17, and 25-16. Northern recorded 35 kills and hit .230 in the match, holding the Muleriders to a season low .028 attack percentage.
Kellie Schmit led the NSU attack with ten kills and hit .300. Schmit added three digs and three blocks in the victory.
Lauren McCafferty, Holley Vancura, and
Jenna Reiff tallied six kills apiece, while
Tori Biach notched a team second best seven. McCafferty hit a team leading .312 in three sets played.
Ashley Rozell added another 30 assists to her season total, and led the team with nine digs.
Rozell was matched by
Jaiden Langlie who added nine digs of her own, followed by
Annika van Oosbree and
Holly Vancura with six each. The Wolves hit a match high .433 in the second set, while tallying 16 kills.
Northern will return to Aberdeen for the 2016 home and NSIC opener on Thursday in a 7 p.m. match-up with the University of Mary from Wachs Arena.
