Wayne, Neb. – The Northern State University softball team dropped their first double-header of the weekend today against Wayne State. NSU fell 2-11 in game one after five innings and 0-3 in the second contest. The Wolves are now 12-20 overall and 2-6 in conference play, while the Wildcats advance to 12-17 and 7-3 in NSIC action.
Game One
With one out in the top of the first,
Kalie Maiden led-off the first game with a single to third.
Rachel Albright advanced Maiden to third with an infield groundout. Next up,
Macey Engel drilled a double down the right field line to plate the first run of the game for the Wolves.
Northern State gave up the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning off of two hits, one walk and one error. Wayne State tallied an additional four runs in the bottom of the fourth after stringing together five base hits for the 6-1 lead.
The Wolves responded in the top of the fifth as
Kelsey Gale started the inning with a double to right center.
Kalie Maiden advanced the senior to third with a slap to the right side.
Macey Engel tallied her second RBI of the game after a single down the left field line to score Gale.
Wayne State sealed the victory in the bottom of the fifth inning as Emily Chandler connected for a three-run homerun to left center. The Wildcats ended the game with the 11-2 advantage.
The Wildcats finished with 12 hits in 27 at bats, led by Katelyn Wobken who went 2-4 from the plate with four RBIs. Northern State recorded six teams hit and three walks.
Missy Elkins fell to 7-9 from the mound with three strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched.
Macey Engel went 2-3 from the plate with both of NSU's RBIs.

Game Two
The Wolves struggled offensively in the second contest, being held to four hits in 25 at bats. Wayne State gathered one run in the bottom of the second and third innings to take an early 2-0 lead. The Wildcats added another run in the bottom of the fourth as Sam O'Brien homered to right field.
Northern State recorded base hits in the top of the fifth and sixth, but were unable to place runners in scoring position.
In six complete innings pitched, freshman
Jamie Fisher falls to 3-9 on the year. Fisher picked up three strikeouts and held the Wildcats to nine hits.
Kelsey Gale led the Wolves recording two of their four hits, with a stolen base in the top of the first inning.
The Wolves will take on Augustana University at 12 and 2 p.m. tomorrow from Bowden Field.
