Wolves Sweep at Yellow Jacket Classic

Billings, Mont. – The Northern State women's basketball team clinched a sweep this weekend at the Yellow Jacket Classic, defeating Black Hills State University for the second time this week. With the 59-40 victory, the Wolves improve to 3-0 on the year, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 0-3 in the 2016-17 season.

Northern State entered the half with a 21-12 lead, sinking seven field goals and seven free throws off of 10 BHSU personal fouls. Defensively, NSU held the Yellow Jackets to a shooting percentage of just 14.7 through the first 20 minutes of play.

Black Hills State returned in the third quarter to go on a 6-0 run to close the scoring gap to three points, however the Wolves answered back in the final quarter, gaining their largest lead of 22 points with 1:47 remaining in the contest.

As a unit, NSU shot 36.7 percent from field goal range, 23.1 percent from the three-point arc and 80.0 percent from the foul line. The Wolves collected 22 points off the bench, 26 points in the paint and five points off turnovers. Northern State combined for 33 rebounds to Black Hills State's 31 total.

Jill Conrad led the team with her first double-double of the season, recording 19 points and 11 rebounds. Conrad went 6-11 from the floor and 7-8 from the free throw line. Freshman Brianna Kusler followed up with a career-high 13 points, with three assists and one steal. Gabby Laimer tallied eight points, while Paige Waytashek notched six for the Wolves.

Conrad was awarded MVP of the Yellow Jacket Classic with 43 total points and 16 rebounds. Junior Miranda Ristau was also selected to the All-Tournament Team with 29 points and 11 rebounds in the two games.

NSU will continue action on the road Monday, November 21st versus Nebraska, Kearney. The two teams will tip-off at 6 p.m. from the Lopers' Health and Sports Center where Coach Curt Fredrickson will look to get his 800th career win.
