Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University soccer team will face the Minnesota State University Mavericks in the opening round of the NSIC Tournament. The Wolves concluded their conference matches with a record of 7-8-0 and are currently 9-8-0 overall in the 2016 season.
NSU recorded a split in their last weekend of regulation play, defeating U-Mary 2-0 on Friday and falling to No. 11 Minot State on Sunday. Red-shirt sophomore
Darian Leschewski led the Wolves in the two matches, compiling a team-high 12 shots, six shots on goal and two goals.
The Northern State defense held both teams to just one goal over the weekend, as senior goalkeeper
Stacey Cavill notched 13 saves for a save percentage of .923 in the net.
Sydney Shintaffer was also a key component for the Wolves, tallying two shots against U-Mary and holding Minot State, a team that averages 2.353 goals per match, to just one in the 90 minute contest.
The No. 7 seeded Northern State and No. 2 seeded Minnesota State will kick off at 1 p.m. from The Pitch in Mankato, Minn.
