Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University swim team found success in their first meet of the 2016-17 season, defeating U-Mary 209-52 and just falling short to Augustana 123-139. The Wolves raced to solid times as a unit in their first contest of the year.
Junior
Hannah Kastigar led the Wolves from the pool, nabbing two of NSU's five total first place finishes on the night. In her efforts, Kastigar broke the school record in both the 200 yard butterfly with a 2:03.08 finish and in the 400 IM, hitting the wall at 4:25.02.
Kady Harris picked up an additional first place finish for NSU in her first collegiate race, recording a time of 1:11.78 in the 100 yard breaststroke. In another first place finish for the Wolves, senior
Kayla Sproles completed the 50 yard freestyle in 25.72. Rounding out the first place finishes for the squad was
Edda Skoric. The freshman finished with an impressive 2:11.41 in the 200 yard backstroke, as well as a second place finish in the 100 yard backstroke.
Kalina Emaus aided Northern State in the two duals, picking up three second place finishes. The sophomore complete the 1000 yard freestyle in 11:29.19, the 200 yard butterfly in 2:17.47 and the 500 yard freestyle in 5:35.15. Another top finisher for the Wolves was
Eliza Jacob in both the 200 yard breaststroke and the 100 yard breaststroke.
The relay team consisting of

Jamie Fuse and
Kayla Sproles nabbed a second place finish in the 200 yard medley relay with a final time of 1:54.78.

Cassandra Maillet and
Hannah Kastigar wrapped up the meet in final event, posting a time of 3:43.26 in the 400 yard freestyle relay.
The Northern State University swim team will return to action from Marquette, Michigan for the Northern Michigan Quad on October, 14
th. The Wolves will face St. Cloud State University, MSU Moorhead and Northern Michigan in the meet.
