Mankato, Minn. - The Northern State University volleyball team dropped their sixth NSIC contest of the season, falling to Minnesota State on the road. The Wolves drop to 16-7 overall and 9-6 in NSIC action.
Northern fell to the Mavericks with set scores of 25-22, 22-25, 25-20, 23-25, and 10-15 as they struggled to get things going in the fourth and fifth sets. The Wolves hit .245 as a team with 55 kills, 54 assists, 40 digs, 15 service aces, and 11 blocks. The 15 aces marks a season high for the Wolves led by
Jenna Reiff with five. The Mavericks hit .326 as a team with 64 kills 61 assists, 49 digs, 12 service aces, and six blocks.
Lauren McCafferty led the NSU offense with 20 kills, followed by Reiff with 13. The pair hit .429 and .333 respectively and were the only NSU hitters above .300 in the match.
Holly Vancura followed with the kills column with nine, while
Kellie Schmit and
Tori Biach tallied seven and five respectively.
Northern State setter
Ashley Rozell tallied 46 assists in the match, and added a team second best four service aces and eight digs. Leading the Wolves on defense was
Jaiden Langlie with nine digs, while Vancura and McCafferty notched seven and five a piece. Biach and Rozell led the team at the net with five and four blocks each in the game.
A total of five Wolves recorded a service ace in the match, with four Wolves tallying multiple. Biach recorded three aces, while Vancura and McCafferty notch two and one respectively. Reiff was the final Wolf with multiple blocks, recording two in the match.
Northern will travel to face the No. 3 Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears tomorrow from St. Paul. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m. from the Gangelhoff Center.
