St. Paul, Minn. – The Northern State women's basketball team fell to Concordia- St. Paul 79-83 after a fourth quarter battle. The Wolves drop to 16-5 overall in the 2015-16 season and 12-4 in the NSIC, while the Golden Bears improve to an overall 10-12 and 6-10 in conference action.
Northern State trailed early in the first quarter, and Concordia-St. Paul managed to hold the lead for the remainder of the match-up. The two teams entered half time locked in at 33-43, in favor of the Golden Bears. CSP gained their largest lead of the contest at 4:19 in third quarter, with a 14 point advantage. The Wolves fought back in the fourth quarter collecting 26 total points, however, it was not enough to catch the Concordia- St. Paul offense.
NSU had four players scoring in double-digits led by Paige Waytashek with 22 points and Miranda Ristau with 21 total. Waytashek notched five three-point baskets and shot 43.8 percent from the field, while Ristau shot 54.5 from field goal range and went 9-10 from the foul line. Jill Conrad put up 13 points and Devon Brecke recorded 10 points for the Wolves.
Northern State was outshot from field goal range and three-point range recording 34.8 percent and 34.6 percent respectively as a team. The Wolves tallied 22 points from the paint, 24 total points off of turnovers, and notched 45 team rebounds.
Concordia- St. Paul also had four players in double-digit scoring, as Mishayla Jones led the way with 23 points. Caitlyn Russell recorded 10 rebounds while Kyrah Fredenburg collected 9 boards for the Golden Bears on the night.
Northern State women's basketball will return home to Wachs Arena for I Hate Winter weekend to face Augustana University at 6 p.m. on Friday and Wayne State at 4 p.m. on Saturday night.
