St. Paul, Minn. – A slow second half saw the Northern State University men's basketball team fall to Concordia-St. Paul 84-76 in Northern Sun action the Wolves drop to 12-10 overall and 8-8 in league play.
Skye Warwick led five Wolves in double-digits with 13 points.
Darin Peterka and
Mack Arvidson added 11 points each, while
Bo Fries and
Carter Evans notch ten apiece. Peterka added a team leading ten rebounds, eight assists, and six steals in the loss. Arvidson followed his career night shooting 4-of-8 from the floor and adding four rebounds.
Northern broke out to a quick lead in the first half, with their largest of the game at the nine and a half minute mark. Northern's 12 point lead was the largest of either team in the game. The Golden Bear went on a 14-8 point run in the final minutes of play to capture the lead and secure the victory.
The Wolves shot 51.6 percent in the first half, however struggled to get things going in the final 20 minutes of play hitting just 10-of-28 from the floor. The foul line proved to be a test for NSU shooting just 65.0 percent for the game.
Each team forced 13 rebounds with the Wolves recording 17 points and the Golden Bears notching 19 off their opponent's mishaps. Concordia-St. Paul fought back from a 44-39 deficit at the half with 45 points. They held the Wolves on defense and improved their percentage from the floor, knocking down 16-of-26.
Michael Schreiber and
Spencer Pankonin added eight and six points off the bench and combined for three assists. Evans added seven rebounds to the team total of 32 on the night.
DJ Pollard recorded seven points and a team second best four assists for NSU.
The Wolves return home next weekend for the annual "I Hate Winter" games. Northern will face off with Augustana and Wayne State next Friday and Saturday from the Barnett Center.
