Wolves Look to Expand on Road Success in NSIC Action

.- The Northern State women's basketball looks to continue their success on the road this weekend traveling to take on Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul. The Wolves are currently on a two game win streak as the visiting team, defeating Bemidji State 59-43 and Minnesota Crookston 76-70, just a weekend ago. NSU now has sole possession of first place in the North Division with a 15-4 overall record and an 11-3 conference record.

Through mid-season action, the Wolves are shooting 42.5 percent from the floor, 30.0 percent from three-point range, and 73.3 percent from the foul line this season. Two starters are in double-digit scoring for Northern State, with sophomore Jill Conrad leading the way at 14.1 points per game average.

Conrad was named NSIC North Division player of the week after compiling 47 total points for the Wolves in last weekend's match-ups. The sophomore forward is currently second in the conference in both field goal percentage and free-throw percentage, shooting .553 from the floor and .932 from behind the foul line.

Seniors Devon Brecke and Lauren Deadrick have lead the team respectively from their positions as Brecke has averaged 3.3 assists per game and Deadrick has recorded 8.9 rebounds off of the boards each match.

The Wolves will tip-off from the Taylor Center against the MSU Mavericks at 6 p.m. on Friday night and face the CSP Golden Bears at 4 p.m. on Saturday from the Gangelhoff Center.  

About the Mavericks
  • Minnesota State enters the weekend 6-12 overall and 5-9 in the conference, after a weekend split against Southwest State and USF on the road.
  • The Mavericks are led by head coach Emilee Thiesse in her third season with the program. She posted the second-most wins in program history in her inaugural campaign with a 26-6 record.
  • Claire Ziegler is leading the team averaging 14.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.

  • The Golden Bears are shooting 41.7% from the floor, 29.6% from 3-poitn range, and 69.4% from the free-throw line this season.
  • Anna Schmitt is leading the team averaging 15.4 points, while Kyrah Fredenburg averages 10.8 rebounds per game.
  • CSP is led by interim head coach Amanda Behenke in her second year with the program. Behenke was a former Golden Bear standout, earning two NSIC Player of the Year Awards.
