Aberdeen, S.D.- The Northern State women's basketball team continued their mid-season success tonight from home, picking up an eighth consecutive NSIC victory in defeating Southwest Minnesota State 84-64. The Wolves are now 13-3 overall in the 2015-16 season and 9-2 in conference play, while SMSU drops to 3-14 overall and 2-7 in the NSIC.
NSU exploded for a season-high 84 offensive points, with three players scoring in double digits and 30 total points off of the bench. The team shot 57.6 percent from field goal range and 44.4 percent from beyond the three-point arch in the match-up. Junior
Alexis Tappe had a career night, notching 16 total points and 10 rebounds against the Mustangs.
Miranda Ristau went a perfect 5-5 from the floor, picking up 12 points, and
Devon Brecke was the final Wolf in double-digits with 15 total points in the contest.
Northern State continued to create a scoring spread throughout, with their largest lead coming in the fourth quarter, up by 28 points. The team produced points off of 18 assists, six of which coming from
Paige Waytashek. The Wolves were aggressive in the paint, putting up a season high 40 total points from underneath.
Defensively, NSU held Southwest Minnesota State to a 31.0 shooting percentage, nabbed seven steals and recorded 32 boards off of the opponent's basket.
Averaging 9.3 points coming into the match, SMSU's Annessa Rosch heated up for 21 total points against the Wolves. The guard led the team shooting 43.8 percent on the night.
The Wolves will look to defend their undefeated 6-0 record from home once again tomorrow night at 4 p.m. from Wachs Arena.
