Live VideoAberdeen, S.D. - The Northern State University volleyball squad continues conference play tomorrow, traveling to MSU Moorhead for a mid-week match-up. The Wolves and Dragons are scheduled to face off at 7 p.m. from Moorhead. Northern is currently 10-0 on the year and the only unbeaten team in the NSIC.
The Wolves opened conference play with two wins over U-Mary and Minot State 3-0. In week one, NSU tallied 91 kills and hit .401. Senior setter
Drew Smith was named the NSIC setter of the week after notching 73 assists and bringing her season average to 13.38. Smith currently leads the nation in assists per set average. She also added 19 digs, two kills, two block assists, and one solo block in the Wolves two wins. Senior outside hitter
Kelsey Chambers was also named the NSIC offensive player of the week. Chambers led the NSIC with a 5.00 kills per set average with 30 kills in six sets played. Kelsey hit .490 in two matches, leading the team with 17 kills versus U-Mary and 13 kills against the Beavers.
Renee Hoffman tallied a season high 19 digs and 11 assists versus the Marauders to open the conference bill.
About MSU Moorhead The Dragons are 9-1 on the year and 2-0 in NSIC play with their only loss coming to Northwest Missouri State at the Augustana Showcase. Kaitlin VanWinkle leads the team with 148 kills this season, while hitting a team leading .450. Setter Casie Baer has tallied 427 assists for an 11.54 assists per set average. As a team MSUM is hitting .245 with holding their opponents to a .125 mark. Baer, Amber Krenske, and Monica Vega have all tallied double-digit service aces this season to lead the team. Libero Amber Krenske was the third and final NSIC honoree of the week for her defensive effort a week ago. Krenske averaged 5.7 digs per set in the Dragons two wins over Minot State and U-Mary. Moorhead is led by 21 year head coach Tammy Blake who holds a career record of 343-269.
Last Season The Wolves took both contests from the Dragons in 2014 with match scores of 3-1 each outing. In the first match-up of the year, Chambers led the team with 19 kills followed by
Cari McGarvie with 12 and
Tori Biach with 11.
Drew Smith notched 56 assists and the Wolves hit .297. Chambers and
Mandy Kurosky led the team in game two with 13 kills apiece.
Tori Biach was second on the team with 11 kills, while Smith tallied 49 assists.
Renee Hoffman led the team with 17 digs, and Chambers was second on the team with 13.
